Patrick Grimes (born 17 March 1982) is an American entrepreneur, engineer, and real estate investor. He is the co-founder of Invest on Main Street, a private equity firm specializing in multifamily value-add projects in emerging markets, and also serves as the regional director of CAID Automation.[1]

Grimes is best known for assisting investors in real estate to increase their wealth through tax-advantaged cash flow and appreciation while limiting their exposure to market volatility and inflation.[2] Since the company’s inception, Grimes has been able to reach general partner ownership of a multifamily real estate portfolio that is valued at over $146M.[3]

Grimes is also a member of the Forbes Real Estate Council,[4] where his articles on thought leadership have been featured.[5] He also regularly contributes to expert panels for Forbes on investing and commercial real estate.[6] Grimes has co-authored an Amazon #1 best selling book, Persistence, Pivots and Game Changers, Turning Challenges Into Opportunities.[7]

Early life and education

Grimes was born on 17 March 1982 to Lara Grimes and Sheri Grimes in Brindisi, Italy. He grew up in a middle-class family of educators and pastors, which instilled a strong moral and ethical framework for life in him. While growing up, Grimes moved a lot because his father served in the Air Force. He spent most of his formative years in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where he did a lot of hiking, climbing, river rafting, and skiing, developing a lifelong passion for outdoor sports.

Grimes took an interest in technology throughout his high school years and went on to engineering school at the University of the Pacific. Grimes earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 2006 after winning an engineering design competition. "The Grill-O-Mation," his invention that was designed to automate the ultimate barbecued steak and propelled him into a profession in high-tech machine design. He then acquired an MBA and a Master of Science in Engineering from San Jose State University.

Career

Grimes began his career in 2000 as a media specialist and server admin at the University of Pacific, where he worked for over two years managing projects and developing procedures for organizational excellence.[8] He then began working at the world's largest winery, E&J Gallo, while he was also studying at college to acquire his bachelor’s degree. Another job that Grimes took on during his college years was at NUMMI, the first Japanese car manufacturing plant in the United States.[9]

In 2006, Grimes joined Kinematic Automation as a mechanical design engineer, where he worked for over five years. During his tenure with this firm, Grimes also serves as the manager of internal software development and applications engineer.[10] After his exit from Kinematic Automation, Grimes started working at Dynamic Automation as a director of business development and applications engineering, where he stayed for over four years.[11]

Simultaneously in 2013, Grimes also started Invest on Main Street, a leading multi-family real estate investment company known for offering a range of wealth-building investment opportunities in Los Angeles.[12] The company’s portfolio includes 1,950+ units across the southeastern United States and Texas.[13] He currently runs this firm with his wife Shuno who serves as the managing partner.[14]

Grimes also serves as the CEO of Protomation Systems, LLC, a company that works with machine design firms to conceptualize, design, and manufacture one-of-a-kind manufacturing automation and robotic systems for the medical device, electric vehicle, and aerospace industries. In 2017, Grimes was appointed as the regional director of business development for CAID Automation.[15]

Personal life

Grimes is married to Shuo F. Grimes who serves as the managing partner of Invest on Main Street and is a member of the Producers Guild of America. She specializes in production management and has over 10 years of experience in the entertainment and performing arts industry, during which she worked on multi-million dollar projects.
