The practise of engineering is carried out by professionals who invent, design, analyse, build and test machines, complex systems, structures. gadgets and materials in order to meet functional objectives and requirements while taking into consideration the constraints imposed by practicality, regulation, safety, and cost. Engineers are also known as practitioners of engineering. It is derived from the Latin words ingeniare ("to create, produce, contrive, devise") and ingenium ("to invent, design, devise"), which mean "to generate, generate, contrive, devise" ("cleverness"). Fundamental qualifications for engineers typically include a four-year bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, or a master's degree in an engineering discipline in some jurisdictions, as well as four to six years of peer-reviewed professional practise (which culminates in a project report or thesis) and successful completion of engineering board examinations.

A relationship is formed between scientific discoveries and their future applications to human and commercial requirements, as well as the overall quality of life. Engineers are responsible for this connection.
