Fabio Hüther (born 8 August 1995) is a Swiss engineer and researcher known for his work in water treatment technology and sustainability initiatives. He is the co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO) of Evodrop AG and the initiator of the Umuntu Movement, a nonprofit organization focused on environmental and social development projects.[1]

Early life and education

Fabio Hüther was born in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland. During his childhood, he was diagnosed with bone cancer, an experience that influenced his later focus on purpose-driven work and social impact.

Hüther pursued higher education in environmental and resource management, earning a Master of Science in Environment and Natural Resource Management from Makerere University in Uganda. He was later awarded an honorary doctorate (PhD h.c.) from an agriculture research institution affiliated with Makerere University in recognition of his contributions to sustainable technology and water innovation.

Career

Hüther began his involvement in social initiatives at an early age. As a teenager, he founded a nongovernmental initiative called Bee The Change, which focused on providing aid to children in African communities.[2]

In 2017, he founded the Umuntu Movement, inspired by the African philosophy “Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu” (“I am because we are”). The organization focuses on providing access to clean water, supporting education, reforestation, and regenerative agriculture projects, primarily in African regions.[3]

In 2019, Hüther co-founded Evodrop AG, a Swiss-based company specializing in water purification technologies. As CTO, he has been involved in the development of filtration systems designed to remove contaminants while maintaining water composition. The company operates internationally and integrates social impact initiatives into its business model, including support for projects led by the Umuntu Movement.[4]

Research and contributions

In addition to his entrepreneurial work, Hüther has contributed to scientific and technical publications in the field of environmental and water sciences. His research explores topics such as the structural properties of water, the interaction of nanoparticles within aquatic systems, and advancements in filtration technologies. While much of his work has been collaborative, it reflects an ongoing effort to bridge the gap between scientific theory and practical application. His publications are available through academic and research platforms and contribute to niche discussions within environmental science and water technology.[5]
