Daradia: The Pain Clinic is a pain management clinic and hospital in Kolkata.[1] The hospital's primary mission is pain management for people suffering from pain, training physicians in pain management, and conducting various kinds of research in pain management.[2]

The hospital has been credited as the “Best Pain Clinic” by ISSP, the Indian chapter of IASP. It has also been awarded “Excellence in Pain Practice” by the World Institute of pain.[3]

The founder and director Dr. Gautam Das[4] has an experience of over 2 decades and has authored several books on pain management.[5][6]

History

Daradia was founded by pain physician Dr. Gautam Das in September 2008, in Kolkata.[7] The clinic was inaugurated by the former Commissioner of Police, Gautam Mohan Chakraborty. The name Daradia in Bengali signifies one who is compassionate and feels others' pain. The hospital was initially started with two daycare beds at Ultadanga, Kolkata, and later in 2018, it turned into a fully functional pain management hospital with 12 beds with a capacity of 50 beds.

Currently, the hospital functions with all modern treatment facilities relating to chronic pain treatment.[8] Apart from treatment facilities the hospital also undertakes training for various neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, and anesthesiologists in pain management.

Hospital has it’s Government registered ethical committee for conducting biomedical research. Various researches on pain management have been conducted here and have been published at many Indian and International medical journals.[9] This hospital is the first private hospital in India for PhD in Pain Medicine under the University of Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences.[10]

  • Treatment - Daradia specializes in all modern pain management facilities. The hospital offers treatment for headaches,[11] spine, neck, and back pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, cancer pain, trigeminal neuralgia, herniated disc, arthritis, and spondylosis. The hospital uses advanced Ozone Nucleolysis, spinal cord Stimulation, Radio-Frequency procedures (all RF procedures like conventional, bipolar, pulsed, and cooled radiofrequency), Endoscopic Discectomy, cryoneurolysis, Epiduroscopy, intrathecal pump, and Vertebroplasty procedures for treatment. As a pioneer in the industry, the hospital has a history of providing medical treatment to patients from India and other countries including Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia, UAE, and Kuwait.
  • Research - Daradia hosts a dedicated and fact-driven research and publication team focused on conducting research in pain management.[12] It is known for publishing the first article on ozone therapy from India in 2009 during its research on ozone nucleolysis.[13] Recently in 2021, Daradia published an article on cryoneurolysis in sacroiliac joint pain.[14]
  • Training - Daradia organizes various workshops and pain management fellowship programs that are affiliated with Aesculap Academy[15] and international organizations such as the World Institute of Pain and the International Association for the Study of Pain.[16] It has successfully trained thousands of physicians across the globe from countries like the USA, Australia, Bangladesh, Egypt, and Malaysia. The hospital features a skill development lab that facilitates indigenous simulation models which enriches the course participants with hands-on experience in learning various pain management procedures.[17]

The hospital’s training facility and procedures have received numerous national and international recommendations including a recommendation from the health minister of a South African state in 2015.
