Rian Doris is an American entrepreneur known as the co-founder and CEO of the Flow Research Collective, a peak performance research and training institute decoding the neuroscience of flow states. Additionally, he serves as the owner and executive chairman of Consulting.com.[1]

With a background in neurophilosophy and neuroscience, Doris has spearheaded research initiatives in collaboration with institutions such as Imperial College London and the University of Southern California.[2] His contributions to assisting entrepreneurs and executives in achieving peak performance have garnered recognition from reputable sources like Fast Company, Forbes, and Big Think.[3]

Early life and education

Doris was raised in western Ireland. During his childhood, Doris spend winters in an ashram in India with his meditator parents.

During his formative years, Doris demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit, engaging in various ventures such as selling surfboards, PlayStations, and Abercrombie and Fitch hoodies. Additionally, he was a rugby player. However, at age 13, Doris faced a life-altering near-death experience during a holiday in Croatia, resulting in seven years of debilitating health challenges, including severe amnesia, blurred vision, and chronic fatigue.

Despite these obstacles, Doris made a full recovery at age 19. His recovery fueled his interest in neuroscience and psychology to understand the workings of the brain and methods for achieving optimal mental states.

Doris holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Political Science, Economics, and Sociology from Trinity College Dublin, complemented by coursework completed during an Erasmus exchange at the University of Zurich. He furthered his education by earning a master’s in neuroscience from King's College London and completing an MBA at Quantic University.

Doris is pursuing a Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Birmingham, focusing his research on effective altruism, particularly longtermism.[5] Throughout his academic years, Doris has led research initiatives with institutions such as UCLA, Imperial College London, the University of Southern California, the University of Zurich, and Claremont Graduate University.

Career

In 2019, Doris co-founded the Flow Research Collective, a peak-performance research and training organization focusing on decoding the neuroscience of flow states. The organization aims to assist business leaders in overcoming challenges such as stress, overwhelm, and burnout by employing a neuroscience-backed approach to enhance productivity and efficiency. Notable clients include Accenture, Audi, Facebook, Bain, and the US Air Force.[6]

Doris' work has reached thousands of entrepreneurs and executives, including notable figures like the co-founders of Ethereum.[7] His contributions to the field have garnered attention from media outlets such as Fast Company, Forbes, and Big Think. Additionally, Doris hosts Flow Research Collective Radio, a science podcast ranked among the top 10 podcasts on iTunes.[8]

In addition to his role at the Flow Research Collective, Doris is the executive chairman and owner of Consulting.com.[9] The platform simplifies business concepts into fundamental building blocks, guiding individuals in building successful ventures. He is also involved in angel investing in health and performance companies, including Levels Health, Neurohacker Collective, The Way, and Myodetox.[11]

Before co-founding the Flow Research Collective with Steven Kotler, Doris gained valuable experience working with bestselling authors Keith Ferrazzi and Dr. Dan Siegel. His journey to entrepreneurship and peak performance began during his undergraduate studies in neurophilosophy at Trinity College Dublin and continued through his MSc in Applied Neuroscience at King's College London. Doris's collaborative efforts with Kotler have led them to various global engagements, ranging from presenting alongside Barack Obama in Helsinki to conducting research with Formula One in London and training leaders in Estonia.[12]

Personal life

Doris resides in Los Angeles, California. In his free time, he engages in surfing, snowboarding, working out, and traveling. He also has an interest in consciousness exploration and participates in various biohacking practices often associated with the tech community.
