Rami Zeedan is Assistant Professor of Israel Studies at the University of Kansas (USA).[1] At the University of Kansas, he is a faculty member of the Jewish Studies Program, and affiliated with the Center for Global and International Studies[2]. He is an Druze in Israel-Druze political scientist and historian of modern Israel.[3] He was a member of the board of Association for Israel Studies from 2015 to 2021.[4] Since summer 2021, he is the Book Review editor of the Israel Studies Review.[5]

Prof. Zeedan has published two books and a number of academic articles.[6] His first book, "Battalion of Arab- the History of the Minorities’ Unit in the IDF from 1948 to 1956" was published in Hebrew by Modan in 2015.[7] His second book, "The Arab-Palestinian Society in the Israeli Political System: Integration Versus Segregation in the Twenty-First Century", was published by Lexington Books in 2019.[8]

Rami Zeedan earned his BA, MA, and PhD from the University of Haifa in Israel.[9] After completing his PhD in 2013, Dr. Zeedan held a number of temporary and visiting positions. Dr. Zeedan was a A.SK Social Science Fellow[10] at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center.[11] In 2014-2016 he held a two-year fellowship for outstanding post-doctoral research from the Council for Higher Education in Israel.[12] During the academic year 2014–2015, he was a Taub-Schusterman Fellow with the Taub Center for Israel Studies at New York University (NY, USA).[13] During the academic year 2015-2016 he was a postdoctoral research fellow with the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (Berlin, Germany) with a project funded by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation.[14] Dr. Zeedan then returned to Israel, and taught at the Kinneret College[15] and the Open University of Israel. During the academic year 2017–2018, Dr. Zeedan was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, [16] with a grant funded by the Israel Institute.[17]

One of Dr. Zeedan's publications focuses on the Basic Law: Israel as the Nation-State of the Jewish People.[18] According to Dr. Rami Zeedan, the main problem in the law, per the Israeli Druze, is ignoring the definition of "Israeli" as the nation of the state, while the Druze hold this as integral part of their social self- identification.[19] Another contribution of Dr. Zeedan is his study of miss-predicted poll in the US and in Israel.[20]

Dr. Zeedan has published two books and ten academic articles [21] covering various aspects of the status of the Arab citizens of Israel of Israel,[22][23][24] the Druze in Israel,[25] History of modern Israel, Israeli politics,[26] Middle-Eastern politics,[27] Ethnic politics,[28] Urban affairs,[29] Local governments,[30] and Public opinion.[31]
