New York University
New York Institution (NYU) is a private research university located in the New York City borough of Manhattan. NYU was formed by a group of New Yorkers, headed by then Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin, in 1831 and chartered by the New York State Legislature the following year.
In 1832, the first non-denominational all-male organization opened the doors near City Hall and started offering lessons based on a curriculum that was geared toward a secular education. In 1833, the institution relocated to Greenwich Village, where it has remained ever since, with its main campus located around Washington Square Park. Since then, the university has expanded to provide an engineering school at Brooklyn's MetroTech Center, as well as graduate schools spread across Manhattan and the surrounding areas. With a total of 51,848 registered students in 2019, comprising 26,733 undergraduate students and 25,115 graduate students, New York Institution has surpassed Harvard University as the biggest private university in the United States in terms of enrolment. Admission to New York University is regarded to be very selective, since it gets the most number of applications of any private university in the country.
In all, NYU has ten undergraduate schools: College of Arts and Sciences, Gallatin School of Arts & Sciences, Steinhardt School of Arts & Sciences, Stern School of Business, Tandon School of Engineering, Tisch School of the Arts, and Tisch School of the Arts. The Grossman Medical center, the School of Law, the Wagner Grad School of Public Service, the School of Professional Studies, the School of Social Work, and the Rory Meyers School of Nursing are among the 15 graduate schools of New York University. The Courant Institute of Applied Mathematics, the Center for Computer Science, the Center for Neural Science, the Clive Davis Institute, the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World, the Institute of Fine Arts, and the NYU Langone Health System are just a few of the university's academic centres that are located within the university. NYU is a global university with degree-granting campuses in NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Shanghai, as well as academic centres in Accra, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Florence, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Paris, Prague, Sydney, Tel Aviv, as well as Washington, D.C.
