Mark McDowell (born January 2, 1990) is a Thai business executive, entrepreneur, digital marketing expert, speaker, and content producer.[1] He is renowned as the co-founder and CEO of Primal Digital Agency, as well as the co-founder of Syndatrace.[2] Additionally, McDowell holds the position of Communications Chair in the Bangkok Metropolitan Chapter of the Entrepreneurs’ Organisation.[3][4]
McDowell is widely recognized as a highly successful entrepreneur and digital marketing expert. His dedication to his work and passion for helping businesses grow has earned him numerous accolades, and his companies continue to be at the forefront of the digital marketing industry in Thailand and beyond.[5]
Early life and education
McDowell was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand, where he attended Bangkok Patana School from 1994 to 2008. He completed his higher education at the University of Otago in New Zealand, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in commerce and business administration in 2013.
Career
Mark McDowell started his career as a website developer, operating as a freelancer and constructing websites for diverse businesses to support himself while attending the University of Otago in New Zealand.[6][7]
After returning to Bangkok, he acquired the role of marketing manager at a small barbecue business, where he sharpened his skills in Google Ads and Facebook marketing.[8]
In 2013, McDowell relocated to Melbourne, Australia, where he served as a performance marketing account manager at WME, one of the country's largest agencies, for two and a half years.[9]
Upon his return to Thailand in 2015, he co-founded Primal Digital Agency, an eminent and credible digital marketing agency that has its headquarters in Thailand and Malaysia.[10] The agency has been instrumental in boosting the revenues of over 500 businesses in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur through digital marketing and currently employs a workforce of more than 150 individuals. As a CEO, McDowell founded Primal to share his knowledge and help Thai businesses realize their full potential in digital marketing, drawing on the successes he had witnessed with businesses overseas. Over the past seven years, Primal has emerged as one of the fastest-growing digital marketing agencies in Thailand, earning recognition in the Financial Times: High Growth Companies: Asia Pacific 2022 and 2023.[11]
In 2022, McDowell co-founded Syndatrace, an organization that provides digital marketing services and AI-powered analytics tools. Syndatrace enables retailers to track the offline return on investment from their digital marketing campaigns by merging in-store and online data to bolster in-store traffic and sales.[12]
McDowell is also an advisor at Talent First, a recruitment consulting firm, a position he assumed in November 2022. Additionally, he is the head of leveling up at Superist, where he aids in unlocking learning and development opportunities for the agency network.
