Jason English (born November 7, 1977, in Durban, South Africa) is a South African business magnate, author, and media personality.[1][2] He is better known as Chief Eco-System Officer and co-founder of CG Tech Group,[3][4] alongside serving as the CEO of the Al Laith Group.[5][6]

Jason is also known for his contributions as an author, particularly for his book "The Oros Effect,"[7][8] where he explores the dynamics of company culture and leadership.[9][10]

Early Life and Education

Jason English was born and raised in Durban, South Africa. He pursued his higher education at Natal University of Technology, where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. During his university years, English embarked on a journey of self-discovery, initially aspiring to become a doctor but ultimately choosing mechanical engineering whilst serving as a paramedic and officer in the South African Police force.

Career

Jason's career journey showcases his wide-ranging interests and skills.

In the early stages of his career, English served in the South African Police Service (SAPS), whilst studying Engineering. This was an experience that endowed him with invaluable lessons in teamwork, decision-making, and strategic action under pressure.

He began his corporate career in the Oil and Gas sector, notably with Kentz Engineers & Constructors (acquired by SNC-Lavalin in 2014),[11] where he served as the Global Project Development Director for the Technical Support Services Business.[12] In this role, he oversaw strategic initiatives and worldwide development in a wide range of nations, including the Middle East, Australia, Canada, the United States, and several African countries.[13] Prior to taking on his international responsibilities, he oversaw Site Project Operations in South Africa, delivering a variety of significantly sized shutdowns, turnarounds and projects primarily in the Petrochemical sector. but within other sectors including Mining, Paper, Water & Utilities and Chemicals.[14]

Jason’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2012, when he acquired Prommac, a small oil and gas services company in South Africa. Under his leadership, Prommac grew from a humble office of 3 people into a significant player in the South African petrochemical industry with revenues in excess of R1 Billion and more than 2500 employees.[15] Jason together with his partners then went on to create the CG Tech group which now has revenues in excess of $200m and employs more than 5000 people across it’s operations.

CG Tech Group

In 2014, CG Energy invested in Prommac, and subsequently the CG Tech Group was born.[16]

In 2015, Kumunyack based in South Africa joined the group, with a focus on electrical and instrumentation maintenance and project delivery.[17][18]

In 2016, Al Laith based in the Middle East became part of the group with a focus on the sales and rentals of numerous plant and machinery, temporary facilities and logistics. Al Laith also has an EPC arm, focussed on delivering turnkey project solutions to the event and entertainment industries as well as a scaffolding division which largely serves the construction sector.[19]

In 2016, CG Tech also founded The Virtulab as; an inhouse software development laboratory with focus on improving productivity and safety for the group companies. The Virtulab later went on to develop its own suite of software products including Virtuworx which was launched during Covid in 2020.[20]

In 2018, New Age Engineering which specializes in welding engineering and fabrication and based in South Africa, integrated into the group.[21]

In 2020, CG Tech entered into a joint venture with Serious Stages to establish Serious International (SIL) in the United Kingdom. Serious core focus is the engineering and construction of sound stages for the film industry. SIL also owns Longcross South Studios in the United Kingdom which has seen the likes of Mission Impossible 7 and 8 being filmed at the studio.[22]

In 2020, Jason also took on the role of CEO of the Al Laith Group.[23]

As the co-founder of the CG Tech Group, Jason has played a key role in the establishment and growth of companies in South Africa, the UK, and the Middle East.

The Virtulab and Virtuworx

Jason's entry into the technology space with The Virtulab is a prime example of his innovative approach to business.[24] The Virtulab,[25] which provides a variety of software development services including virtual and augmented reality solutions, was born out of the difficulties associated with managing a worldwide dispersed workforce.[26]

Philanthropy

Jason English has been involved in various initiatives aimed at improving social and economic conditions particularly in South Africa.[27][28]

Personal Life

Jason's personal interests include formula one racing and he is a qualified helicopter pilot. He is married with 3 children and resides in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He is also a resident of Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
