Wikibusines (formerly Wikibusiness) is a European company specializing in PR and native advertising on Wikipedia. Since its establishment in 2010 in Kyiv, Ukraine, it has become the largest agency of its kind in Europe and North America.[1] With a team of experienced editors, marketers, and Wikipedia moderators, Wikibusines offers comprehensive services to promote brands, companies, politicians, celebrities, and products. The company provides a full range of services: writing drafts, adapting the text to Wikipedia's requirements and policy, publishing, moderation, protection against deletion, monitoring, dealing with criticism, updating information, as well as annual support and maintenance of client pages on Wikipedia.[2]

Leveraging the power of Wikipedia and employing SEO and SERM strategies, Wikibusines ensures its clients' visibility and proper positioning on the first page of search results, including work with Wikidata and Google Knowledge Graph.[3]

Having created thousands of articles spanning more than 50 languages, Wikibusines has reached a diverse global audience. Its client base extends across 50 countries, solidifying its international presence and attracting a wide-ranging clientele.[4]

The company's unique advantage is a guarantee of successful moderation on Wikipedia with a refund in case of page deletion.[5]

History

Wikibusines was founded in 2010 by Bogdan Dubylovskyi and Roman Melnyk, based in Kyiv, Ukraine, as a PR and native advertising agency. Drawing on their expertise, Bogdan, an experienced political technologist, and Roman, with a background in urban planning and digital marketing, identified the untapped possibilities of paid editing on Wikipedia. Seizing the opportunity presented by the increasing demand from individuals looking to improve their Wikipedia presence, Bogdan and Roman joined forces to create Wikibusines.[6]

Wikibusines' early years were marked by their pioneering efforts in the emerging field of paid editing on Wikipedia. As one of the first agencies to offer such services, they played a significant role in shaping the industry and establishing best practices. In subsequent years, the company expanded its operations, entering the CIS market in 2013 and then venturing into the European and North American markets in 2017. In 2018, the company launched new products, including SERM, political publicity, and media strategy, offering comprehensive solutions for brand promotion.[7]

The agency's success and continuous growth led to the attraction of private investments in 2019. This enabled Wikibusines to transition into a more professional setup with expanded marketing efforts and entrance into foreign markets, build up the sales and R&D department.

On its 9th anniversary in 2021, the company rebranded as Wikibusines, emphasizing a shift towards optimization and essential minimalism, represented by the removal of one "s" from the original name and the use of three variations of the Sofia Sans font in the new logo.

In 2022, the company launched new products: promotion and native advertising on Reddit, Quoara, and LinkedIn.[8]

Services

Wikibusines offers professional services for Wikipedia article creation and management. Their team of experienced editors and moderators ensures that articles meet Wikipedia's guidelines and standards. They take a meticulous approach to crafting articles from scratch, providing accurate and well-researched content. The team is also working on the integration of backlinks into existing Wikipedia pages, which improves SEO for clients' websites.[9]

Additionally, they offer support for existing articles, making necessary corrections and updates to keep the information current. Wikibusines prioritizes client satisfaction and strives to maintain the integrity and quality of the articles while adhering to Wikipedia's policies.[10]

The company also deals with complex cases, editing wars, criticism, and inaccurate information on clients' Wikipedia pages.

Social projects

In 2020, Wikibusines took a proactive stance against Russian propaganda by establishing their public organization "Ukrainian Wikipedia" and launching the Patreon account "Wikipatrol." Through Wikipatrol, they actively engaged in creating articles about combat operations, Ukrainian soldiers' heroics, Russian crimes, and real-time articles about ongoing battlefield events. Military and SBU personnel began seeking the agency's assistance, leading to the removal of Russian propaganda and the protection of pages exposing Russian armed aggression.[11]

In 2021, Roman and Bogdan presented a book anthology of Ukrainian modern futurism "Zvyzdobolid". The book presents the work of contemporary Ukrainian futurists and proclaims the need for personal progress.[12]

In September 2022, Roman Melnyk delivered a speech on combating Russian propaganda on Wikipedia at the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium in Berlin, sharing the stage with prominent figures such as Olaf Scholz and Donald Tusk. Meanwhile, Wikibusines also engaged in offline volunteer activities. They befriended military personnel from the Joint Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and provided a Nissan Navara pickup truck for missions in the south. Additionally, the agency initiated a project to tailor underwear for the military and donated three Starlink satellite Internet stations to support communication fot the military in the eastern and southern regions.[13]
