Vira Tolkach (September 27, 1987) is a Ukrainian accounting and financial expert, public speaker, and author. She is the Director of Advisory in Accounting Advisory Services at KPMG US, based in New York. Tolkach has over 12 years of experience in leading international financial reporting practices, leading accounting practices, auditing procedures, and application of emerging innovative technology in accounting and finance.[1]

She has been recognized as one of the early pioneers in understanding and forecasting developments in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) finance. Her analytical skills have been showcased in various forums, including her report on ESG finance featured in Financial Investigator and Reuters. Tolkach is frequently sought after for her insights, representing the United States in international panel discussions and training sessions.

Early life and education

Tolkach was born on September 27, 1987, in Kyiv, Ukraine. She was raised in a family of entrepreneurs by her mother, Olena Tolkach. Tolkach was an academic scholar and graduated with honors from her secondary school.

In 2011, Tolkach joined Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Pre-Master Economics, followed by a Master of Science in Accounting, Auditing, and Control, specializing in Accounting and Finance. In 2015, Tolkach earned a postgraduate degree in accounting from Nyenrode Business University.

Additionally, Tolkach obtained a Master of International Auditing from Universiteit Maastricht and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specializing in international accounting, auditing, and assurance. She is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Accountant from the Royal Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants ('NBA').

Career

Tolkach has over 12 years of experience in complex international reporting and accounting roles within multinational firms. She began her career at KPMG Amsterdam in 2011 in international accounting audit, later transitioning to KPMG US in New York,[2] where she currently serves as the Director of Accounting Advisory Services since 2021. Tolkach's expertise spans auditing, accounting advisory, and implementing new IFRS standards.[3] She also held a board membership at Nyenrode Finance Circle from March 2017 to August 2021.

Tolkach is recognized as a speaker and expert in international accounting and finance, contributing to scientific and business publications. Notably, Tolkach has been a key figure in understanding and predicting developments in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) finance since 2015. Her contributions include publications such as 'Currents of Change' (2015) and chairing the 2018 'Sustainable Investments' conference. Her insights on ESG Finance have been featured and recognized by industry publications like Financial Investigator in 2018.[4][5]

She holds membership in prestigious professional organizations, including the Royal Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants ('NBA'), US IMA (Institute of Management Accountants), and IASA (International Association of Software Architects).
