Bachelor of Science (BSc), (BS, SB, and ScB) are all examples of bachelor's degrees in science. Degrees in science are often granted for programmes that span three to five years.

The Institution of London was the first university to accept a student to the degree of Bachelor of Science, which was awarded in 1860.

In different areas, different universities give Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degrees, depending on the subject matter and the university. As an example, an economics student may graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree from one institution but with a Bachelor of Science degree from another, and in certain cases, both choices are available to them. Some universities, such as Oxford and Cambridge, continue the practise of awarding Bachelor of Arts degrees to graduates in mathematics and the sciences, whilst other institutions solely award the Bachelor of Science degree, even in subjects that are not considered sciences.

Bachelor of Science degrees are typically more focused on a specific field of study and are intended for students who plan to pursue graduate school or a professional career in that field. In universities that offer both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in the same discipline, the Bachelor of Science degree is typically more focused on that particular field of study and is intended for students who plan to pursue graduate school or a professional career in that discipline.
