Sweta Rai is a Hollywood film producer and entrepreneur. She is the Founder & CEO of Diverse Cinema, an Over-the-top media service, and a film production company Indo Holly Films.[1][2][3]

Early life

Rai's father, Dr. Surendra Kumar Rai, Ph.D., D.Litt. is a professor of political science and author of books.[4][5] Her mother, Anita Rai, is a professor of Hindi literature, a newspaper columnist in the 80s, and a radio artist.[6] Sweta Rai has a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Producing from the American Film Institute (AFI).[7][8]

Career

She worked as a TV Newscaster in India. She then worked for the Warner Bros. Discovery Asia-Pacific in Singapore as a Distribution Executive and was also designated as their Global Diversity Ambassador.[9]

Rai was one of the producers for Surviving the Wild, featuring Jon Voight and Jamie Kennedy.[10] Later, she worked as a Supervising Producer on the Hallmark Channel feature film J.L. Family Ranch 2: The Wedding Gift (2020) featuring James Caan, Bo Derek, and Trevor Donovan.

Some of her other produced feature films are The Ghost Beyond (featuring Trevor Donovan), Orphan Horse (featuring Eva LaRue, Jon Voight), Heaven & Hell a.k.a Reverse Heaven (featuring Burt Ward).[11]

In the year 2020, Rai produced, and directed a documentary feature film called “A Pandemic: Away from the Motherland,” featuring the lives of immigrant doctors from the early days of the Pandemic.[12][13] This film featured USA’s first COVID double lung transplant surgeon and four other immigrant doctors. The film was released on Apple TV and other OTT platforms and was also in the race for the 93rd Academy Awards.[14]

Rai set up a diversity streaming channel Diverse Cinema. In March 2021, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan showed his support of the film production company following a meeting with Rai.[15][16] The films being streamed as of 2022 are Cross-cultural communication.
