Sam Ogrih (born 1963) is a Nigerian serial entrepreneur, real estate developer, and philanthropist. He is the founder of DMTNL, a renowned real-estate firm. He is a member of the board of trustees of the Real Estate Developers Association Of Nigeria (REDAN). Ogrih has over two decades of experience in road construction and building and has made a substantial contribution to improving the industry's standards of practice.[1]

Ogrih is passionate about providing Nigerians with Smart gated communities, with intelligent buildings. He has, since the inception of DMTNL regularly delivered high-quality affordable housing developments while leading a team of excellent and efficient people.[2]

Throughout his career, Ogrih has established himself as one of Africa's most illustrious CEOs, continually championing ethical business practices, inspiring leadership, contributing to Nigeria's economic development, creating jobs, and transforming the face of the country's real estate sector.[3]

Early life and education

Born in Uzere Kingdom, Isoko Local Government Area, Delta State, to the family of Prince Stephen Ogrih. He completed his early education at Ellu and Uzere Primary Schools and Uzere Grammar School. Later Ogrih went on to Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, where he studied Accounting.

Ogrih is also a member of the Institute of Strategic Management's fellows' program. He's taken a number of local and international leadership and real estate development courses, including one at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design.

Sam as a Real Estate Specialist and an Entrepreneur

In 2009, Ogrih launched Delta Mega-Trend Nigeria Limited, a Real Estate Development and Civil Engineering Works company with offices in three states: Delta, Lagos, and Abuja. The company focuses on the design and construction of new, smart, digital building structures as well as civil engineering projects. The firm has vast experience in the design, construction, and maintenance of economical, practical living environments.[4]

DMTNL’s bespoke gated residential estates include The Plantation City,[5] the new smart Southbrook Gardens Estate both in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, and the Ivory Oak Terrace Apartments at Marshy Hill Estate, Lagos. Apart from that, the company also has a strong Social Corporate Responsibility policy and ensures it gives back to the communities in which it operates.[6]

Ogrih has also given extensive insights into enhancing housing and real estate development in Nigeria at various local and international trade/housing expo fairs.

Expansion into the Hospitality Sector

Ogrih’s passion for real estate inspired him to build and develop the Leawood Hotel and SEE Events Centre in Lagos, which is a modern, stylish boutique hotel.[7] Leawood Hotel has established itself as a global reference point for the hospitality industry in Nigeria. The brand continues to employ Nigerians while also advancing the hospitality industry and culture in the country. The hotel employs talented young Nigerian men and women who are gaining experience and skills on the job.[8]

Sam as an Educationist

Ogrih established a campus in Lekki as part of a private/public cooperation with The Lagos State University when he first entered the education industry. Since then he has made significant investments in manpower development, allowing thousands of young and middle-aged Nigerians to obtain high-quality education at a low cost. He also built human capital capacity, enabling people who came through the Center to achieve a bright future for themselves. As of 2022, Ogrih continues to teach in various centers.[9]

Personal life

Ogrih is humble and has quietly and diligently contributed greatly to the education of students in his immediate and extended home communities for many years by ensuring that final year secondary school students write their external examinations free of charge, easing the burden on their parents while also improving the overall education of these children. On a yearly basis, he supplies school uniforms, books, and footwear to nearly 2,000 students.

Through a well-structured Foundation, his family is also highly involved in caring for elderly men and women, particularly widows.
