Reda Youssef El Chaar (Arabic: رضا يوسف الشعار; born 5 September 1984) is a Lebanese serial entrepreneur based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.[1][2] He is the founder of the Dubai International Financial Centre based Access Holding Limited which has three primary subsidiaries operating in the power, mining, and real estate industries.[3][4]

El Chaar, prior to establishing his first company, Access Power Limited, has worked with Unilever and ACWA Power.[5] He has also been recognized by several media outlets for his contribution to the industry - becoming one of the 40 under 40 most influential business figures in the Middle East for five consecutive years.[6]

In 2019 Forbes magazine described El Chaar as a trailblazer in emerging markets.[7] El Chaar identified potential in emerging markets such as real estate, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and construction, among others, and with Access Holding, he infiltrated each of them, revolutizing corporate processes with a fresh perspective.[8][9]

Education

El Chaar is a graduate of the American University of Beirut. He has also received a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst certificate from the CAIA Association.

Career

El Chaar began his career in 2004 when he joined Unilever as a management trainee. He worked for over two years with the multinational organization honing his skills as a business executive.[10][11]

In 2007, El Chaar joined ACWA Power initially as a business development executive and then rose in ranks during his tenure of over four years.[12] He led and developed the renewable energy portfolio at ACWA Power, which included projects in Morocco, South Africa, and Bulgaria, among others.[13][14]

El Chaar embarked on his entrepreneurial journey when he founded Access Power in 2011, a company that develops, owns, and operates power assets in emerging and frontier countries.[15] In 2015, Access Power announced the launch of Access Infra Africa- the largest privately owned vehicle to build, own, and operate power plants across Africa, in collaboration with EREN Renewable Energy.[16] In the next couple of years, the company also started Access Infra Central Asia which focused on developing power plants in Central Asia. Since then, Access Power has a development pipeline of 1,000 MW in 15 African countries, and 500 MW in eight countries in Central Asia collectively worth over one billion US Dollars.[17] In 2018, Chaar started Access Future Metals, a mining company, and then a year later, Access Real Estate, a commercial and residential real estate company.[18]

In 2019, Access Holding Limited had a net asset value of over US Dollar 300 million. During the same year Access Power Limited had completed the sale of 334 MW of its power assets.[19] Such consistent success was due to the company's goal of maximizing financial benefits by concentrating on the development of power assets.[20] By 2023, the firm will have finished its current project, which involves the development of a 750 MW pipeline of power assets in many emerging regions.[21][22]

Philanthropy

Access Foundation, the non-profit arm of the Access group has been working across major world issues - education, access to water and electricity.[23][24]
