Raul Fernandez-Crespo, M.D., is a urologist, practicing in Tampa, Florida.[1]
Education and career
Dr. Fernandez-Crespo graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. In 2007, he participated in the Penn State College of Medicine STEP-UP Program. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2013 from the Ponce Health Sciences University in Ponce, Puerto Rico.[2] During his medical studies, he also received the General Surgery Award from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine.
Following the completion of his M.D. degree, he participated in a Sexual Medicine and Andrology Fellowship at the University of South Florida.[3] He completed his internship in general surgery and urology residency at the University of Puerto Rico in 2019.[4]
From 2013 through 2018, Dr. Fernandez-Crespo conducted research on sex hormone levels and semen profiles in adolescents with varicocele and urological manifestations of Behcet’s Disease at the University of Puerto Rico. He also researched robotic assisted radical prostatectomy in obese patients. He studied the urological experience after Hurricane Maria through the Puerto Rico Medical Center.
Dr. Fernandez-Crespo’s research on penile implant surgery has been cited in medical publications and he has co-authored a number of studies.[5] He is a co-author for Infection of the Penuma Penile Implant and Associated Postoperative Complications.[6]
Dr. Fernandez-Crespo is an assistant visiting professor with the Department of Urology at the University of South Florida.[7] He currently practices urology in Tampa, Florida.[8] He also specializes in male infertility.[9] He is affiliated with Tampa General Hospital and Advent Health, and is a member of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America.[10]
Additional activities
When not working, Dr. Fernandez-Crespo volunteers with various philanthropic organizations, such as Amor que Sana. He also enjoys choral music and travel.[11]
