Philip Cecil Rickard (born 24 October 1968) is a Canadian / Indonesian entrepreneur, executive and philanthropist.[1] He currently serves as the CEO of the company he founded Nature’s Vault, a company focusing on highly disruptive solutions to some of the worlds most difficult ESG problems.[2]

Throughout his career, Rickard has established a number of businesses across a range of industries, with a particular focus on mining. He is a founding shareholder of three renewable energy companies; Terrasys Energy, Sawa Energy, and Solarsys. Rickard has also invested in the gold mining sector and is a shareholder at IndoGold Mining and a partner in Ensbury Kalteng Gold.[3]

Early life and education

Rickard was born on 24 October 1968 in Canada and raised in Indonesia. He completed his high school education in both Indonesian and American schools. He later received a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Washington's Gonzaga University and is fluent in Indonesian language, business and politics.

Career

Prior to investments in the hardrock mining sector, Phil had companies in the Fintech industry and was the CEO and owner of one of the largest mobile payment companies in South East Asia. His company pioneered micropayments for premium mobile content and was later sold to Stellent, which is now a division of Oracle. He was also the founder and EVP of ActiveIQ Technologies, a knowledge management firm that was listed on the NASDAQ. Rickard built a natural language processing AI tool with Adele Goldberg and a team from MIT to examine papers before they are checked into the enterprise. Apart from that, Rickard also served as the chairman and CEO of a Singapore Exchange-listed power firm and founding president of the Singapore Stock Exchange Association.[4]

He is currently the founder and CEO of Nature's Vault, a company focusing on highly disruptive solutions to some of the world’s most difficult ESG problems. The idea of creating Nature's vault was inspired by the climate problem and the future associated with it. With Nature's Vault, Rickard wanted to bring a paradigm shift in the way society invests in gold, and gold mining was required.[5]

Personal life

Phil was married and has two children named Ayu Rickard and Philip Foster Rickard.
