Narayan Ghimire (Nepali: नारायण घिमिरे; born Nepal, 1970 February 15) is a Canadian Nepali Food Scientist who specializes in creating innovative food and flavoring ingredients.[1] He is the first Canadian of Nepali origin with Lean Six Sigma Master Black-belt qualification.[2] Narayan comes with twenty-five years of experience as a Food Technologist and takes a special interest in healing foods, disruptive innovation, and Veda and Bigyan.[3][4]
Currently, Ghimire is engaged in uncovering a common ground between 2500 years' old ayurvedic drugs, healing foods, healthy life philosophy, and advanced science and technology.[5]
Early life and education
Ghimire was born in Yampa Phant, Bandipur, Nepal to Dasharath Ghimire and the late Manikarna Tiwari. From his childhood, he was an avid book and novel reader. Narayan graduated as a Food Technologist from Tribhuvan University in 1994.
In 2005, he immigrated to Canada under the skilled immigration program and was granted Canadian citizenship in 2014. Thereafter, Ghimire did his post-graduation in Quality Assurance in Pharmaceutical Science in Toronto, Canada. He also received the Lean Six-Sigma Master BlackBelt from Villanova University, USA.
Career
Narayan started his professional journey with the Decentralization Support Project of the United Nations Development Program in Nepal. Thereafter, he worked as a Technical Director in association with the World Food Program and the Ministry of Education Nepal.[6] After gaining considerable experience, Narayan established the first food science and research institution called the Yampa Food Processing Center in rural Nepal, where he successfully developed 18 new food products and four new technologies within 18 months of its establishment. Unfortunately, his venture was shut down owing to the conflict between Nepali Maoists and the Nepali government during that time.[7]
Ghimire then migrated to Canada and updated himself with a new body of knowledge. He worked with the Ministry of Environment as a GC-MS Technologist and later joined Flavorcan International Inc as a Food Scientist and Flavorist. Meanwhile, Narayan was also involved in writing company-wide quality 22000 manuals and developing a sensory evaluation gold standard to provide professional help to food and flavor industries across the globe.[8]
With his background in food science and technology, Ghimire engages with a team of food scientists, technologists, and flavorists in creating about 300 custom-designed innovative food flavorings.[9] Narayan has over twenty-five years of experience as a food scientist and Lean Six Sigma Change Leader in the agri-food ingredients industry. Currently, he is engaged in uncovering a common ground between 2500 years’ old ayurvedic drugs, healing foods, healthy life philosophy, and advanced science and technology.[10]
Ghimire is also a senior member of the American Society of Quality, the Institute of Food Technologists, and the British Society of Flavourists.[11]
Books and Publications
Narayan has published around five hundred articles about ayurvedic healing foods, cannabis, herbal-based innovation, technology transfer, Veda and science for national Nepali newspapers and online portals.[12] He is also the author of two books that are published in the Nepali language. These are Nepali Raithane Jadibuti[13] and Cannabis in Nepal.[14]
Ghimire also has his own blog site by the name of Veda Talk-Vedic Bhela Since 2021.[15]
Awards and Recognition
Ghimire has been awarded a number of accolades, which include the Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt from Villanova University as well as the American Society of Quality Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Narayan is also an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer.[16]
Ghimire is a Certified Food Scientist by the Institute of Food Technologists and a Certified Flavorist recognised by the British Society of Flavourists. He is also an Applied Science Technologist, certified by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.[17]
Narayan is a Certified Pharmaceutical Analyst and is named one among theScientific Research and Experimental Development Practitioners.[18]
Ghimire recognised as One of the Distinguished top 19 Nepali Immigrants working abroad.[19]
Personal life
Narayan currently lives in Toronto, Ontario with his family. He is married to Kalpana Rijal. He has a son, Lee Ghimire.
