Michael Okoh (born September 29, 1977) is a Nigerian banker, SME trainer, consultant, and author. He is a business manager at United Bank of Africa PLC, demonstrating his expertise in liability generation, risk asset creation, E-banking products, and relationship management.[1]

Okoh also owns and operates a consulting firm, Scope Business Company, focused on supporting small businesses through training and agricultural production. Dedicated to empowering entrepreneurs, he has authored a comprehensive guide titled "SME: The Backbone of a Thriving Economy." Okoh's diverse expertise, active community engagement, and awards showcase his notable contributions to the Nigerian business landscape, establishing him as a respected figure in the field.[2]

Early life and education

Okoh was born and raised in Agbor, Nigeria. He earned a bachelor's and master's degrees in agriculture from the University of Benin in 2002. He also completed professional training in various fields, such as Business Analysis, Credit Appraisal, and Digital Marketing. In 2021, he obtained an MBA from Tekedia Institute.[3]

Career

Okoh started his career as a transport and logistics manager at Pennant Wray Invest Ltd., a Trucking and Logistics Company. In 2004, he ventured into the banking industry, starting as a management trainee at First Bank of Nigeria Limited. Over the years, he progressed to become the Unit Head. Subsequently, in 2007, he joined Intercontinental Bank Plc, followed by a move to Access Bank Plc in 2012.[4][5]

In 2013, Okoh joined United Bank for Africa PLC (UBA) as a profit center manager, and later in 2020, he earned a promotion to the position of Business Manager. His responsibilities at UBA encompass a wide range of functions, including liability generation, creating high-performing risk assets, relationship management, deployment and enlightenment of E-banking products, revenue collections, expense approval, P&L, and balance sheet management, Regional Value chain Champion, general branch management, and administration.[6]

Throughout his 20-year banking career, Okoh has served in diverse roles across various departments, including Audit, Internal Control, Branch Operations, Retail and Personal Banking, SME Banking, Commercial Banking, Public Sector groups, and Branch Management. These experiences have allowed him to interact with small business owners, gaining valuable insights into their challenges and aspirations.[7]

Motivated to make a meaningful impact in the business world, Okoh founded Scope Business Company, a consulting firm specializing in SME consulting, training, agricultural production, and value chain processing. Through Scope Business Company, he endeavors to support SMEs by providing them with the necessary tools, knowledge, and assistance to thrive in today's competitive business landscape.[8]

As a professional SME trainer and consultant, Okoh shares his wealth of knowledge and expertise with aspiring and existing small business owners. He conducts tailored training programs covering crucial topics such as business planning, financial management, marketing strategies, operational efficiency, and access to finance. By empowering entrepreneurs with these essential skills, he enables them to make informed decisions, overcome obstacles, and achieve sustainable growth.[9]

In March 2023, Okoh released his first book, "SME: The Backbone of a Thriving Economy." The book serves as a comprehensive guide designed to assist entrepreneurs in establishing and expanding their SMEs successfully. Drawing on real-life case studies and practical advice, the book provides valuable insights and actionable strategies to enhance the chances of business success.[10]

In December 2022, Okoh served as a speaker at the Global Youth Empowerment Summit, sharing his expertise and insights to inspire and empower young individuals in their pursuit of success.[11] Okoh is also a member of the Institute Of Chartered Economists Of Nigeria and the International Institute Of Business Analysis.[12][13]

Okoh resides in Benin, Edo State, Nigeria, with his wife, Okoh Daniella Chika, and (five) and not four children. He actively participates as an usher in his local church and holds leadership positions in his community, demonstrating integrity and commitment in his service.
