Lawrence Alobi (born 11 August 1984), professionally known as King Plu is a Nigerian hip-hop artist based in Brooklyn, NY. He has been regarded as one of the most influential up-and-coming hip hop artists in the city best known for his eclectic style that is a brilliant culmination of Afrobeats, Afrofusion, and Hip-hop genres.[1]

Plu has made a name for himself in the Afrobeats music scene by continuously releasing recordings and mixes - CKay’s global smash “Love Nwantiti” and Tiwa Savage’s hit single “Somebody’s Son.” In addition to writing for artists, King Plu has also performed alongside J. Cole, Drake, Fabulous, Wale, DMX, Rick Ross, Slim Thug, and other industry giants.

Early life and education

King Plu was born on 11 August 1984 to traditional African parents and grew up in Brooklyn. He later graduated from the University of Houston.

Career

King Plu began his professional career in music when he was in college. During that time he became a member of the Hip Hop group 4th & Inchez, releasing 3 albums and 2 mixtapes. Plu later joined The Union, a group that released four mixtapes and performed around the South. After the group's disbandment in 2011, King Plu joined the songwriting collective The Four, where he wrote and composed music for a variety of musicians. He collaborated on recordings with Destiny's Child's label, Music World, Cash Money Records, Papa Reu, Lil Flip, and others.

Plu rose to prominence after releasing PluMixes to several songs, including CKay's global smash "Love Nwantiti," which received over 150K streams in less than a week, and Tiwa Savage's hit single "Somebody's Son" Ft Brandy, which she featured on her Instagram home page and received over 100k views, 55K likes, and impressions in just three days. He recently released a music video called "Free Heat,"[2] which is a song about phony friendships, love, and well-wishers.

Plu has notably contributed to creating a versatile music production environment gaining recognition for his witty wordplay, punchlines, metaphors, double/triple entendre, precise and crisp delivery coupled with an undeniable finesse on a record.
