Kelvin Fu is a business executive, investor and entrepreneur from Indonesia.[1] He is the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Gunung Capital,[2] a private investment management firm specializing in impact investments that are guided by environmental, social, and governance frameworks. In addition, he is a co-founder of a well-known private equity real estate investment and development firm in the US Mid-Atlantic region that specializes in multifamily, student housing, retail/office, and mixed-use assets.

Fu is also a YPO member and acts as an advisor for IJK Capital, Interprise Partners, and a partner at A-Level Capital, GL Capital as of 2022. Throughout his career, Fu has worked on multiple agreements in various geographic regions, including North Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe, in a variety of sectors, including consumer goods, energy, and healthcare. Fu also works closely with finance providers and enterprises to form cross-border strategic alliances.

Education

In 1997 Fu enrolled in Raffles Institution, where he studied for five years. During this time he actively participated in sports activities and was also the Captain of the Basketball team. Kelvin earned a scholarship from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to study at the National University of Singapore for his undergraduate studies. During his service with the SAF, he held several positions such as Commander, Planner, and Trainer. Fu acquired his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the National University of Singapore. Simultaneously he also did a course in Technopreneurship from NUS Overseas College and Fudan College.

Later, Fu also received a scholarship to pursue his Masters of Business Administration at the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School.[3] He also enrolled in Macquarie University from where he acquired a Master's Degree in Applied Finance. Fu has also published a case study from Stanford University, titled “Strengthening Electricity Distribution in Uganda: The Role of Private Equity.” He is an active participant in the Asia Investor Group for Climate Change, Family Business Network in Asia, and the Taskforce for Voluntary Carbon Markets.

Career

Fu began his career in 2015 when he became the director of the Innovation for Humanity program at the Carey Business School. During this time he also served as a consultant for Great Lakes Energy. Simultaneously he also worked as a graduate assistant at Johns Hopkins University for over a year. He also founded The Johns Hopkins University Private Equity and Venture Capital club in the same years, where he currently serves as the president. This club provides a forum for students interested in all aspects and stages of Private Equity and Venture Capital.

In 2015, Fu became a partner at A-Level Capital. A year later he also became a partner at GL Capital, where he currently serves as the CIO. In 2016, Fu became an associate at JLS Capital Strategies, where he worked for over a year. During this time he advised clients in the telecommunications, oil/gas, and thermal power sectors.

In 2017, Fu joined Interprise Partners as a Vice President,[4] and after almost three years became an advisor and is currently associated with the organization. In 2020 he also became an advisor for IJK Capital Partners. In the same year, he joined Gunung Capital as a director of strategic investments and business development.[5] Currently, he serves as a Managing Partner for the firm. In 2021, he became a YPO member.

Personal life

The Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 affected Fu to a greater degree. He witnessed his family beset by debt, forced to drastically downsize their lifestyle and live on a shoestring budget. This pushed him to work hard and reach the point that he is in today.
