Jehad Hattab (born 18th March 1990 [2]), better known as Joe Hattab, is a Saudi born documentary filmmaker best known for producing and creating cinematic films on his YouTube channel Joe Hattab. Having joined the social media channel YouTube, on the 20th September 2012, and started to post in 2016, he already has earned over 1 billion views in total. Hattab became a famous person of influencer after building his content by crossing the globe creating travel-based, emotive and compelling storytelling videos. He has gained more than 9 million followers in addition to accumulating 10 million followers on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

In 2021, Joe Hattab received a new Saint Kitts and Nevis passport allowing him to travel to over 157 countries. Joe created a video on receiving the passport which went viral, generating 4.7 million views. He also has the Golden Visa enabling long-term residence visas to live, work, and study in the UAE without a national sponsor and with 100 per cent ownership of their business on the UAE’s mainland.

Early life and education

Born in Jordan and raised in Saudi Arabia [3], Joe (Jehad) Hattab turned into a rising star by noticing a gap and rising demand for storytelling videos in the Arab market. Living with his two brothers and three sisters, no-one in his family had an interest in filmmaking or social media and therefore why his knowledge on the topic was lesser known.

Coming from a small city – Yanbu – near Jeddah, Joe finished school in 2007 and graduated in Accountancy in 2012 at a university in Jordan. Joe quit his job in June 2016 in Saudi Arabia as he felt another calling and although Accountancy was a well-received job, Joe wanted to change people’s lives; therefore, YouTube was something new for Arabs and for Joe himself which he wanted to pursue.

After quitting his job, Joe travelled around Asia backpacking on a one-way trip. With $15k in his wallet from his work savings, Joe travelled on a budget sleeping in hostels all while creating short vlogs. Once the public began to recognise his content, Joe was able to create a small income and in his 3rd year of vlogging, he was sponsored with a tourism board. It took Joe five dedicated years of commitment to build his channel and work his way up, inspired by his passion and enthusiasm for travelling.

Career

YouTube In 2016, Joe Hattab started his YouTube with his first video being around the fear of ‘public speaking’ and the second being ‘quitting my job.’ The first year proved to be difficult with only 1000 subscribers and this was due to Joe experimenting with the platform and social media as a whole. In the first two years where Joe was trying to find his niche, his videos were predominantly based around travelling, showing his life in unique destinations, how to travel on a budget, challenges, travelling tips until 2018 when he began his short documentaries and strict vlogging style.

Joe’s subscriber’s count on YouTube did exceedingly well, his channel reached millions of daily views, with the growth of YouTube doing exceedingly well. “We are seeing a young generation of people in Saudi that are so creative, ambitious, and they are really good at everything they do. They work like a family supporting each other which needs this the most in our Arab countries” says Joe in an interview with Esquire Middle East [4].

Joe’s production and content output has gained him recognition as one of the most sought-after travel vloggers in the region. Despite not having studied videography or filming, Joe educated himself on video editing techniques through YouTube tutorials and through practising daily until he developed a unique style in creating content. It wasn’t until 2017, that Joe realised the potential of his work when his videos of him giving flowers to strangers in the streets of South Korea went viral.

Since then, Joe has done collaborations with other YouTubers, interviewed nearly all Guinness World Records holders and reached people in all different areas of the world.

He is one of the most successful YouTube stars [5] and has ranked on the list of those famous people who were born on March 18, 1990. He is also noted as the Richest YouTube Star positioned among the list of the Most Popular YouTube stars. As a high-quality, cinematic filmmaker, Joe has worked with the big names and international brands around the globe including Samsung, Emirates, Facebook, Fortnite, Sony and more. Having signed with ITP Live, the leading influencer marketing agency in the UAE, in 2021, Joe has become of their exclusive influencers working continuously on creative campaigns, partnering with brands across the world.
