Fred Voccola is an entrepreneur, founder, business leader, and philanthropist. He is the CEO of Kaseya,[1] a leading global company that provides unified IT management and security software to small and medium-sized businesses and managed service providers. Voccola was selected two years in a row by The Software Report as a Top 50 SaaS CEO.[2] He is the founder and chairman of the Cooper Voccola Family Foundation and an active board member of several for profit and nonprofit organizations.
Early Life and College
Voccola was born and raised in New Jersey, the second of three boys in his family. Voccola credits his father, an innovative technology entrepreneur himself, as an inspiring mentor who exposed him to a problem-solving mindset and the idea that creativity leads to innovation and life improvement for people. Voccola’s father was a pioneering entrepreneur in several society-transforming innovations, including Automated Parking Ticket Processing, the Electronic Toll Collection Systems industry, as well as in vehicle navigation systems.
During his college years, Voccola aimed at a Wall Street career, but after several interviews without being hired, he shifted his focus to entrepreneurship and innovation in early-stage software companies.
“I did it (became a software entrepreneur) purely because I couldn’t get hired by Wall Street. I tried and tried, but the Wall Street firms did not like me. I assumed I was not ‘Wall Street’ material. However, it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me in my professional career because, without realizing it, I jump started my career into what I believe is the greatest industry to be in, software and technology. The software industry is amazing and has been great to me. I love innovation, the constant drive to challenge things and make things better, working with super smart people, and getting to build great, amazing products that add tangible value to customers. To me, the software and tech industry is the ultimate meritocracy; you get rewarded for adding value. I mean, what other industry on the planet could a 20-something-year-old kid with no industry contacts or connections get by and be taken seriously based on his merits, with no concern about, ‘where did you go to school?’ or ‘who do you know?”[3]
Career
After earning a B.S. in Finance from The Carroll School of Management at Boston College, Voccola grew from his initial start up, and later spent time with many hyper growth, emerging technology companies, including Prism Solutions, Ardent Software (Acquired by Informix (INFX) and Intira, where he filled several management and executive roles. He went on to co-found Identify Software, served as COO, and grew the business to $60 million before the company was bought by BMC Software (NYSE: BMC).[4] He later co-founded Trust Technology Corp. in 2008, a fintech SaaS platform that was sold to FGI Global. He served as the president of Nolio, Inc., a DevOps SaaS company that sold to CA Technologies (NYSE: CA). Voccola also served as president and general manager of Yodle for Brand Networks, which eventually exited to Web.com (NASDAQ: WEB).
In 2015, Voccola became Kaseya CEO.
CEO of Kaseya
As CEO of Kaseya, Voccola leads the vision, strategy, and growth of the company. Under Voccola’s leadership, Kaseya has become one of the world’s fastest growing and most valuable software companies. Upon taking over Kaseya in 2015, Voccola has grown the company from approx. $60 million in sales to over $1.5 billion today, all which achieving unusually high profit margins which has led to Kaseya having an estimated enterprise value over $16 billion.[5]
Voccola’s initial vision as Kaseya’s CEO was to simplify IT for MSPs (Managed Service Providers) and solve the core challenges of vendor fatigue, limited software budgets, lost technician efficiency, and limited software utilization. He led Kaseya to create and develop its IT Complete platform, an integrated platform for multifunction IT professionals. During Voccola’s tenure, Kaseya has acquired multiple technology companies in an effort to continuously build out the IT Complete platform, and their family of brands have grown to include Graphus, Unitrends ID Agent, IT Glue, RapidFire Tools, RocketCyber, Spanning Cloud Apps, and most recently Datto.
Voccola enthusiastically supports Kaseya’s Grow Your Own initiative, a program that offers mentorship and guidance for individuals to grow within the company. The program has developed managers, leaders, and executives, many who started with Kaseya as entry-level team members, and provided hundreds of Kaseyans with life changing opportunities to grow both financially and professionally.[6]
Voccola also lead Kaseya through its purchase of the naming rights for the Miami Heat's home arena, now known as the Kaseya Center.[7][8]
Board of Directors
Voccola has served on numerous software company board of directors, assisting the companies and CEOs to achieve high growth, high profit operating models, and successful liquidity transactions. These have included: Kaseya (current), Anima Biotech (current), TeamDynamix, Club Ready, Board Effect and Member clicks.
