Emmanuel Daniel is a Singaporean entrepreneur, corporate strategist, author, speaker, and global thought leader in finance.[1] He is an expert on the future of finance and its impact on business and society. Daniel is the founder of TAB Global,[2] a global research, publication, and consulting house that owns and manages a portfolio of digital content platforms, including The Asian Banker,[3] Wealth and Society, BankQuality.com, TABInsights, and The Banking Academy.[4]

Daniel’s contributions to financial journalism have been recognized with the Citibank Excellence in Journalism Award for Asia in 1999 for his work on the internet's impact on banking. He was a top 10 global influencer in the “Fintech Power50” list for 2021 and 2022.

Daniel is highly regarded for his financial industry insights and is a global speaker at conferences and events across the United States, Asia, and Europe. As a prolific author, he is best known for his debut publication, “The Great Transition: The Personalization of Finance is Here” (September 2022).[5] The book serves as a comprehensive resource, offering insights into the present state of the financial industry and a visionary perspective on its ongoing transitions and development.

Early life and education

Daniel was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He grew up in a Methodist Christian family. In 1982, he moved to Singapore and graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1986. In 1990, Daniel obtained his law degree from the University of London. In 1999, he completed a course on economics and business at Columbia University in New York.

Career

After completing his law degree, Daniel started his career as a management consultant at Coopers & Lybrand Consulting.[6]

In 1996, Daniel founded TAB Global, a global research, publication, and consulting house. The company was incorporated in Singapore and has established offices in Beijing, Dubai and Delaware as well as support offices in Kuala Lumpur, and Manila. TAB Global owns and manages several digital content platforms, such as The Asian Banker, Wealth and Society, TABInsights and BankQuality.com. The company also owns learning platforms like The Banking Academy and The Skill Store.[7]

The organization publishes data, best practices, and case studies covering various themes within the financial services sector, including retail, transactions, technology, and financial markets. The Asian Banker has become a highly regarded repository of benchmarking and evolving practices in the financial services industry.[8]

TABInsights is a global research and consulting subsidiary. TABInsights offers custom research and consulting to financial institutions in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa.

The Banking Academy is a learning platform affiliated with The Asian Banker. It is a global provider of online and in-classroom training, workshops, study tours, master classes, and membership-based working groups. Its primary objective is to deliver comprehensive learning and development opportunities for banking and financial professionals.[9]

In 2014, Daniel established BankQuality.com, a premier site for worldwide ratings and commentary on financial service providers. BankQuality.com aims to bridge the communication gap between consumers and their banks. BankQuality.com collects information on service quality and global financial industry developments through surveys, user ratings, and comments. This data is used to assess the performance of financial institutions.

In 2018, Daniel established Wealth and Society, a global program that brings together high-net-worth investors and financial advisors to create a better society through their investments. The initiative evaluates the contributions of affluent individuals to societal development through philanthropy, corporate social responsibility, and projects fostering sustainability and societal well-being.[10]

In 1999, Daniel received the Citibank Excellence in Journalism Award for the Asian region for his work on the impact of the Internet on banking.In 2021 and 2022 he was recognised as a Global Top 50 Fintech Influencer in the Power 50 ranking. He is also a “Top Investment Banking Voice” in LinkedIn.

Daniel is a distinguished speaker and consultant, advising institutions and government agencies on financial industry developments. He engages in conversations with global CEOs and decision-makers, contributing to detailed financial reports for decision-making. As a sought-after speaker, Daniel frequently attends events across the United States, Europe, and Asia and in confidential boardroom sessions.[11]

Daniel has served on government advisory committees and was a member of the Council on Corporate Disclosure and Governance in Singapore. Additionally, he was a non-accountant in the Ethics Subcommittee of the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA), Singapore. Daniel was also a member of Entrepreneurs Organization (EO) and an associate member of the Asia Society.[12]

In September 2022, Daniel published his debut book, "The Great Transition: The Personalization of Finance is Here."[13] The book forecasts the banking industry's shift from platform-centric technologies to unprecedented personalization. The book details the roles of cryptocurrencies, blockchain, gaming, and other technologies in this evolution and serves as a guide for disruptor technologies in finance. The book includes forewords from former congressman Barney Frank, co-author of the Dodd-Frank Act, and Richard Sandor, recognized as the "father of financial futures."

This documentation is material for his upcoming book on "Winning Civilization," wherein he draws connections from observations made in various communities, societies, and countries. The book is scheduled for publication in 2024.

Daniel divides his time between Singapore, Beijing, and New York.
