History

Elephant Robotics was established in 2016 by Kirin Wu (Wu Qilin, 伍祁林) and Joey Song (Song Junyi, 宋君毅) with the aim to bring a ‘robotic revolution’ and promote industrial automation. At the same time, the company joined the HAX incubator (a US-based hardware seed accelerator) and got the SOSV seed funding. The company initially started the research and development of its industrial collaborative robot - P series and C series.[6]

Within a year of its inception, founders Wu and Song were featured in the Forbes List “30 Under 30 - Asia - Industry, Manufacturing & Energy and the company was listed as one of the Top10 China’s most innovative companies by CES.[7] In the same year, Elephant Robotics also received a Cloud Angel Fund for future development. By the end of 2017, the fifth-generation single-arm Elephant 5 hit the market and earned massive popularity.[8]

In 2018, the company secured second place in the Asian intelligent hardware competition held in Shenzhen. A year later, Elephant Robotics attended Hannover Messe 2019 and Automation World 2019, HUAWEI ECO-CONNECT EUROPE 2019, and International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) with Harbin Institute of Technology. In the same year, it established the Intelligent Robot Joint Research Lab with the South China University of Technology. By the end of 2019, the world’s first bionic pet cat-Marscat was created by Elephant Robotic which earned the founders the Shenzhen Robot Emerging Person Award.

In 2020, the company created the world’s smallest six-axis collaborative robot and, a year later, the world’s smallest commercial cobot- myCobotPro 320.[9] In 2021 Elephant Robotics published the world’s smallest compound robot chassis-myAGV. The company’s products have been featured in a number of prolific Chinese media outlets such as Xinhua Finance, China Daily, Nanjing Daily, and Harbin Daily.[10]

(Story behind the company name)

The name Elephant Robotics is derived from Lao Zi's philosophical treatise "Tao Te Ching", which states: "With a good vision, everyone in the world will come to aid you." Joey Song wanted more individuals to join this promising job to realize the firm's mission "Enjoy Robots World," so he paraphrased from that line and established the company name. To make it easier to remember, the company's English name was literally translated as "Elephant Robotics."
