Arash Barmaan (born December 30, 1999) is an American Iranian entrepreneur[1] and a basketball enthusiast best known as the CEO of BOOS,[2] an online dating app for the Persian Jewish community.[3] He also aims to launch himself into the sports industry by becoming an NBA Athletic Trainer someday.[4]
Barmaan is also a social media influencer and a fashion model who has 1 million followers on Instagram.
Early life and education
Barmaan was born in Los Angeles to Jamshid Barmaan, father, and Saeideh Aryaee, mother. Growing up, Arash always dreamt of becoming an NBA player. He held basketball close to his heart and wanted to pursue it as his career. Arash attended high school in 2014, where he was met with the unexpected experience of being cut from his school basketball team for racist political profiling reasons.
In 2018, Barmaan attended Santa Monica College to pursue his degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. He tried to participate in basketball at the college level, which he couldn't do owing to a lack of roster spots. Arash knew his potential and decided to play overseas. Given all the odds and competition stacked against him, Arash knew it would be difficult to compete with the already established big names in the sports industry.
However, Arash continued to figure out means by which he could get closer to his dream. In 2020, he applied for a Bachelor's in Sport Administration at the University of Miami, where he is currently studying.
Career
After completing his education in sports, Barmaan partially satisfied his curiosity and passion for basketball. However, now he had to focus on making a career. Arash then tried different fields like entertainment, marketing, advertising, and communications before launching himself as an entrepreneur.[5]
Barmaan also shared a keen interest in the world of digital marketing and social media, which led him to launch BOOS,[6] the world’s first online dating app for the Persian Jewish community.[7] Arash, through his initiatives, aims to eliminate the traditional social constraints attached to relationships and marriage, which also made him launch Poly, an app for polyamorous dating.[8]
His platform, BOOS, gives Persian and Jewish people enough time to understand each other before making any long-term commitment. Barmaan aims to bring the Persian Jewish community together through marriage.[9] BOOS is based on an algorithm that narrows down the list of potential matches based on factors like age, location, height, gender, and ethnicity for the ease of users. The application is free to download for all users, despite their gender, race, and ethnicity.[10]
Arash is currently pursuing his Bachelors in Sport Administration alongside his dating app initiative. Keeping alive his passion for basketball, he intends to become an NBA Athletic Trainer someday.[11]
