Anjana Chandran is an Australian-Indian dancer, actress, and corporate professional known for her work in Indian classical dance, Malayalam cinema, and digital media sales. She is proficient in various Indian dance forms, including Bollywood, Contemporary, Urban, Semi-Classical, Mohiniyattam, and Bharatanatyam.[1]

Chandran debuted in the Malayalam film industry with the movie "Kurukshetra," in 2008. She also starred in the "Crossroad" (2017) segment "Pinpe Nadappaval," directed by Lenin Rajendran.[2]

Early life and education

Chandran was born in Kerala, India, and relocated to Australia at age 15. She completed her high school education at Macarthur Girls High School in Parramatta City, Australia. Chandran holds a bachelor’s degree in media, communications, and journalism from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), graduating in 2017.

Career

Acting

Chandran debuted in the Malayalam film industry in 2008 with the film "Kurukshetra," directed by Major Ravi. She portrayed the character Alma alongside Malayalam megastar Mohanlal. In 2017, she starred in "Crossroad," an anthology film where she played the lead role in "Pinpe Nadappaval," directed by Lenin Rajendran.[3]

Dancing

Chandran trained in Bharatanatyam under Smt. Manjula Vishwanath in Australia and has also studied Mohiniyattam and Bollywood dance. She is proficient in various styles, including contemporary, urban, and semi-classical dances. Chandran won the Best Bollywood Dancer award at the AHIA Australian Dance Competition in Sydney. She has appeared in various television shows and music videos and has toured with dance companies in Los Angeles and New York.[4]

Additionally, she teaches dance and choreography at BCube Studios in Melbourne and runs a popular YouTube channel and Instagram account where she shares dance tutorials and workshops. She has over 1.1 million followers on Instagram.[5]

Corporate Career

Chandran began her corporate career as a promotional sales staff member at the Marc Edwar Agency in 2012. Chandran has contributed to driving digital media sales for the retail, FMCG, and technology sectors in various positions, such as account manager and digital media sales professional. She has held positions as a style assistant at Colette by Colette Hayman, a technical support specialist at Commonwealth Bank, and a client service representative at ANZ Share Investing. She joined Indeed.com in 2020 as an account strategist and was promoted to senior client development strategist in 2022. She has also worked as an account manager at Nextmedia Pty Ltd. She is currently a media account manager at Octomedia, a position she assumed in June 2023.[6]

Community Involvement

Chandran is the president of the youth wing of Ozindcare, Inc., a not-for-profit charity organization. She has organized several events, including a Bone Marrow Donor Drive in 2016, a Mother's Day Celebration in 2017, and a Father's Day BBQ in 2017, raising funds for various charitable causes.
