Australian public research university The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is located in the city of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales. It is marketed as UNSW Sydney. It is a founding member of the Group of Eight, a coalition of Australian research-intensive institutions that was formed in 1989.

UNSW is a research university that was established in 1949 and is now rated 44th in the world in the Qs World University for 2021 and 67th in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2021. It is a part of the Universitas 21 network of research institutions, which is a worldwide network of research universities. It has exchange and research agreements with more than 200 institutions across the globe, and it participates in international conferences.

UNSW Canberra at ADFA (previously known as UNSW at ADFA), shortened to UNSW Canberra, is the university's second biggest campus, and it is located in Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory. UNSW Canberra is the university's second largest campus (ACT). The Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) is the military academy of the Australian Defence Force, and the University of New South Wales Canberra (UNSW Canberra) is the sole national academic institution with a defence emphasis.
