Yonatan Jamel Watts (born January 5, 1989), known professionally as Yonatan Watts, is a Canadian record producer[1], singer, and songwriter. Watts has co-produced records such as "Main Thing" by American singer Ariana Grande, “GLE” by American rapper Desiigner, “Weak all Week” by American singer Eric Bellinger.[2][3] He is also known for his collaborations with Babyface (musician), Murda Beatz, and Bizness boi.

Early life

Yonatan Jamel Watts was born January 5, 1989, in Toronto, Canada. [2]

He grew up with three other siblings. He moved to New York City in his early twenties, where he began working for recording studio Platinum Sounds.[4]

Career

Music Production

Watts started recording acts such as Trinidad James, Tristan Wilds, Maino, Dreamdoll,[5] and Free from 106 & Park while working with New York-based music manager DJ Self|DJ self. Gradually, he started a joint partnership with the recording studio called Invite Only.[6] He later began to work with artists on major labels such as Universal Music Group,[7] Republic Records,[6] Def Jam Recordings, and The Walt Disney Company.[8]

Eventually, he was able to build a relationship with these artists and began recording Ari Lennox's award winning debut album Shea Butter Baby.[6] Watts also had the opportunity to work with Smokepurpp and Kim Viera.[6]

He started to work with producers like Rodney Jerkins and Babyface (musician).[4] Watts subsequently moved to Los Angeles.[4]

Watts went on to work on Ariana Grande's Billboard #1 album in 2021, Positions (album), as well as work with other artists such as Agnez Mo, Desiigner, Eric Bellinger, and on NBA basketball player Damian Lillard's debut album.[6]

Singing

Watts is also a singer and songwriter.[10] He was on Season 5 of Canadian Idol at the age of 18 and made it to the duets stage.[11]
