Early life and education

Garnett was born on April 17, 1961 in Ponyan, a semi-urban locality in Kogi State of Nigeria. His father was an educationist and his mother, a nurse. Garnett grew up in an upper-middle class household, and after completing his high school education at St. Paul’s College, Zaria, Northern Nigeria, he migrated to the United Kingdom, where he embarked on his journey as a Pre-Med scholar at Edward Greene College, Oxford. He eventually graduated with a medical degree from the University of Benin, Nigeria.

Career

Nineteen years into his medical career, by which time he had already served a tenure as a senior family medicine consultant at a teaching hospital, and was, by now proprietor of his own private practice, quite unable to any longer resist the lure of the pen, he abdicated the world of medicine for that of creative writing. To express matters in his own words.

“I will tap into my medical background to engage in a quaint surgical metaphor. To decisively and radically incise myself from what had initially appeared to be my pre-ordained life career was such a massive leap from the known into the unknown that it demanded immense and heart-palpitating courage. My daredevil courage was all the more remarkable, if only because my switch in career attracted nothing but derision, scorn, and mocking laughter from those close to me. Yet, as has been proven, very much like a recurring decimal in the annals of mankind, it is the person of courage that ultimately has the last laugh. I soberly know this to be a fact of my own experience. That radical change in my career trajectory appeared altogether foolhardy. Yet, that was the critical decision that would set me firmly on the path of my true destiny. I now know that authentic success, contrary to consensus, is not all about a bank account bursting at the seams with dollars. It also seeks expression in the currency of happiness. I distinctly recall that finally, at the depth of the abyss of utter despondence and despair, I was compelled to engage in an incisive revision of my career and my professional life. Although I was at a confounding and desperate cross-roads, it would yet turn out the greatest, the most significant, and the most critically-defining moment of my life, because finally, I turned inwards, and sought to ignite whatever spark of individual brilliance I might conceivably possess, and use it to bless humanity. I gave my stethoscope a farewell kiss, and consigned it to my museum of memorabilia.”

Today, Garnett describes himself as a Physician-turned Creative Writer. He belongs to the new generation of skilled ghostwriters that are fast gaining recognition for their uncanny ability to deploy a unique and refreshing style to creative writing, in the process blending a formidable intellect with a combination of empathy and intuition to achieve the best outcome for an author’s manuscript. Garnett’s philosophy is a study in the sublime strategy he adopts towards a vocation he views in somewhat reverent light. He believes that a good book is written twice. It is first written in the mental realm. Then, it is written on the material plane. In other words, the book would first be written in the author’s head. Next, the ghostwriter creeps into the author’s head to retrieve the story, in the process creating authors out of storytellers. Considered a consummate player at the most proficient level of ghostwriting advisory in the United States, he is famed for the phenomenal ability to deliver a 200-page manuscript in a record time of two weeks, should that sort of urgency be absolutely compelling, and in a ‘voice’ so unique to the author as to render the book a strong personal statement of his client’s vision and values. Having assisted in excess of 60 authors to achieve their manuscript objectives, Garnett’s peculiar forte now appears to be the dual ability to achieve a strong emotional connection with his clients, and the exceptional ability to write in a wide range of tones, genres and subjects that cover the entire gamut of the human experience, in the process inspiring the uncommon devotion of a formidable backdrop of a loyal clientele base that cuts all across the globe.
