Vitaly Goncharuk (born June 29, 1983) is a Ukrainian-American serial entrepreneur in the field of information technology, known for his work in artificial intelligence and metaverse development. He is the founder of Augmented Pixels, Inc, a California-based company specializing in navigation, 3D mapping, and localization solutions.[1][2]

Goncharuk is also the founder of the Eastern European Computer Vision Conference, a CV/ML Researchers and Engineers community in Eastern Europe. He is a frequent presenter at international conferences on artificial intelligence and augmented reality.[3][4]

Early life and education

Goncharuk's interest in technology began in his adolescence, and he later graduated from the Richelieu Lyceum, the top mathematics high school in Ukraine. He then attended Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University to study applied mathematics and business administration.

Career

In 1999, Goncharuk began his professional career as a software developer and product manager. In 2004, he went to a new firm as an expert in mergers and acquisitions and chief financial officer, where he executed over 10 M&A deals. Goncharuk created the 60-person Outsource Software Development company in 2009 and served as its CEO until 2013.[5][6]

In 2013, Goncharuk founded Augmented Pixels, Inc in Palo Alto, California. The company develops augmented reality glasses, robotics, and indoor navigation solutions. LG, Qualcomm, and Intel are among the company's elite clients. Plug and Play, Presence Capital, The Hive, Steltec Capital, and ICU are the company's investors. In 2014, Augmented Pixels, Inc won the Plug and Play Expo. In 2021, Forbes included Augmented Pixels, Inc in the 30 best startups.[7] In 2022, the company was acquired by Qualcomm, the number 1 chip developer worldwide.[8]

Goncharuk is also a stakeholder and advisor at Respeecher, a role he assumed in 2019.

In October 2022, he joined the board and became an investor in A1V Lab, a venture builder in artificial intelligence.[9]

Goncharuk has positions as founder, chair, and advisor for numerous committees and organizations in artificial intelligence. In 2013, he launched the Eastern European Computer Vision Conference, which allowed computer vision researchers and developers to interact, share their knowledge, learn about new trends, and discover like-minded individuals.[10]

In 2018, Goncharuk joined the Open AR Cloud Foundation, which developed the Metaverse and AR Cloud concepts.

In 2019, Goncharuk spearheaded the foundation of the Expert Committee on the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Ukraine's Ministry of Digital Transformation and subsequently assumed the position of its chairman.

Goncharuk served as an advisor to the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine on digital strategy and international aid during the years 2020 and 2021.

In 2020, Goncharuk became an official member of the Council of Europe's Ad hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence.

In addition, Goncharuk presents at international conferences on artificial intelligence and augmented reality. In 2015, he delivered a speech to the US National Academy of Sciences on the evolution of Artificial Intelligence. He is the author of the articles discussing the influence of deep fakes and technologies on society. He has also served as the mentor and judge at NASA (USA) Space Race project.

Personal life

In his free time, Goncharuk enjoys playing mafia and jujutsu. Skydiving and hiking are his other interests.
