Valeria Rubino (born June 20) is an Italian video journalist, producer, editor, camerawoman, entrepreneur, and author.[1] She is widely recognized as the only Italian journalist to have conducted one-on-one interviews with all the NBA stars and many other sports personalities.[2] She founded ViaggioSport (VSport), a website that features articles on sports, travel, lifestyle, and fitness. She also works for BBC radio and has created a travel website and app, Bestplacestokiss, a comprehensive travel guide for couples.[3]

With an extensive career, Rubino has made a significant impact in the broadcasting and media industries, establishing herself as a driving force in the field.[4]

Early Life and Education

Rubino was born and raised in Naples, Italy, where she discovered her passion for swimming. From the tender age of 5, she embarked on a remarkable swimming career, earning her a spot on the Italian national team, representing the country in open-water long-distance races. In addition to her achievements in marathon swimming (up to 25k competitions), Rubino showcased her versatility by participating in ocean rescue races, demonstrating her ability to excel in different athletic domains.[5]

Rubino excelled academically, graduating with distinction from the University of Naples Federico II, the oldest public university in the world, where she earned a bachelor's degree in political sciences and was awarded a scholarship to pursue her first master's degree in parliamentary law. She then moved to Miami to pursue a master's in broadcast journalism from the University of Miami.[6]

Career

Following her second Master's degree, Rubino's professional journey took off. She began working in production with renowned media outlets such as NBC6, Sun Sports, ESPN, TNT, and Telemundo. Rubino's role varied from journalist and interviewer to camerawoman, producer, and field producer for esteemed networks, including RAI (Italian TV), RAI News, L'Equipe TV (French TV), GQ Italia, ArtsLife, and ESPN Todo Deporte (Spanish). Notably, she served as the foreign correspondent for the esteemed Italian press agency, LaPresse.

Rubino's skills as an associate producer, production coordinator, and translator from multiple languages were further showcased when she contributed to the Netflix show "First Team: Juventus” and worked for IMG.

In 2015, Rubino founded ViaggioSport, known as VSport, fueled by her deep passion for sports and travel. On this dynamic platform, she takes on multiple roles as a host, correspondent, writer, editor, producer, and translator. Her main objective is to deliver comprehensive coverage of major sports events, including the NBA, boxing, and sports news. She aims to captivate audiences through engaging videos and articles that offer insightful perspectives and compelling storytelling. Alongside her work at VSport, Valeria also holds the position of video journalist for Italy's prestigious newspaper, Corriere della Sera.[7]

Rubino's exceptional interviewing skills and linguistic versatility have established her as a prominent figure in sports and beyond. Her work is featured on international outlets such as ViaggioSport, where her fascinating videos and insightful articles are showcased.[8]

As the only Italian journalist to have conducted one-on-one interviews with every NBA star, Rubino has demonstrated her proficiency in English, Italian, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.[9] Her interviews extend beyond basketball to include conversations with boxing champions like Manny Pacquiao, Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder, Canelo Alvarez, and Gennady Golovkin, PBR athletes, as well as soccer stars such as Thierry Henry, Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Pirlo, Sergio Chiellini, Juan Cuadrado, Harry Kane, and Hugo Lloris.[10][11]

Rubino has interviewed personalities across various fields, including actors Susan Sarandon, Katie Holmes, and George Clooney; music icons DMC and Jay-Z; fashion designers Roberto Cavalli and Vera Wang; and celebrities like Khloe Kardashian and Bill Cosby.[12]

In addition, Rubino created the website and app called "bestplacestokiss," a one-of-a-kind travel guide designed exclusively for couples. She has also delved into the realm of culinary exploration by writing a captivating book called "Taste of Italy in NY." This book takes readers on a delightful gastronomic adventure, showcasing exquisite recipes from renowned chefs in both contemporary and historic Italian restaurants located in the vibrant metropolis of New York.[13]
