The University of Pennsylvania Medical Center Shadyside received a ranking of 14th overall, making it the highest-ranked medical centre in Pittsburgh. It was also one of only 20 hospitals in the United States to make the Honor Roll of the "nation's best" hospitals in the survey that was conducted in 2017. Diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, and pulmonology are three of the disciplines in which UPMC is ranked among the top 10 hospitals in the nation. UPMC has received recognition for distinction at the national level in 14 of the 16 available specialist categories. The UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh received a ranking of ninth overall and was rated in all ten of the paediatric specialities that were included in the poll conducted by the magazine, with four of those paediatric specialties receiving a ranking in the top ten.
