She started her media career as a student intern at Channel A TV's production studios in Kent, Washington. During her internship, she learned television production, directing, video editing, and live reporting while shadowing experienced broadcasters. Chirwa earned an Associate of Arts degree from Green River College before completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Political Science at the University of Washington.
