Davies Chirwa (born June 8, 1974) is a Zambian-Malawian media executive, entrepreneur, celebrity film producer and technology advocate.[1] He is the founder and president of Channel A TV and DC Productions Media Group, recognized for his contributions to digital media innovation, community development, and the promotion of African excellence on the global stage.[2] Chirwa has been honored with several international awards, including recognition by the Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD)[3] and the U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award. His career spans over two decades, with notable work in media production, technology consulting, and philanthropic initiatives.[4]
Early Life and Education
Davies Chirwa was born in Mchinji, Malawi, and raised in different parts of Zambia including Northern Province, Copperbelt and Lusaka. He attended Ituna Primary School and later at Mungwi Technical Secondary School where he studied pure sciences of high school education. Pursuing a career in Electrical Technology and Information Technology, he furthered his education at LUTTI in Zambia, AITATECH in Malawi, and ITT Technical Institute in the United States. He holds Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) certification programs which validates IT professional's expertise in designing, implementing, and managing Microsoft technologies. He is also a Certified IMB and Dell Systems Specialist in computer hardware and networking.
Chirwa also earned an honorary doctorate in Technology Innovation and Community Development from American Management University in California. His early academic focus centered on electronics, electrical technology, and computer networking laid the foundation for his work in digital infrastructure and media.
Career
Chirwa began his professional journey in Lilongwe, Malawi, working as a Certified Computer Network Specialist. While working as a Computer Network Engineer for a U.K based International company Unipro(Africa)Ltd, Chirwa was the instrumental lead in designing and implementing the computer network infrastructure for the Malawi government's ministries at Capital Hill. In 2000, he migrated to Seattle, Washington, where he worked in Corporate America’s healthcare technology sector, including roles at First Choice Health, Liberty Dialysis and Microsoft.[5]
In 2010, Chirwa founded DC Productions Media Group, followed by the launch of Channel A TV in 2011. Through these platforms, he has produced media coverage for major events such as the NFL Super Bowl,[6][7] Grammy Awards,[8] MTV Awards, BET Awards, Oscars, FIFA tournaments, and other high-profile entertainment, cultural and sporting events.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Chirwa gained recognition as a virtual technology expert, organizing, and hosting online fundraising events that raised significant funds for nonprofit organizations and community initiatives. His efforts earned him accolades for innovation and leadership in crisis response.
In 2021, Chirwa established the African Achievement Awards to honor the accomplishments of the African diaspora.[9] The awards celebrate excellence in leadership, community service, education, entertainment, fashion, and sports, with an emphasis on promoting African heritage and influence globally.
Chirwa’s career also includes advocacy for the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in business and nonprofit sectors. Davies Chirwa resides in Seattle, Washington, United States. Chirwa has a passion for mentoring young leaders and entrepreneurs, often speaking at conferences and workshops on topics such as technology innovation, media production, and community development.
He is an advocate for using technology and media as tools for positive social change and has collaborated with various celebrities and nonprofit organizations to advance education, artificial intelligence (AI), health initiatives, and digital access for underserved populations. Outside of his professional life, Chirwa enjoys music, sports, and traveling, frequently drawing inspiration from different cultures around the world.
