Tekin Salimi (born May 25, 1988) is a venture capitalist and lawyer from Toronto, Canada.[1][2] He is a partner at Polychain Capital,[3] an investment firm that specializes in blockchain and cryptocurrency technology.[4][5]

Salimi is most recognized for his extensive experience in cryptographic digital assets and blockchain technology.[6]

Salimi has been featured in several media outlets for his contribution to the blockchain industry such as CoinDesk,[7] CoinTelegraph, VentureBeat, Forbes,[8] Guardian,[9] Ocean Drive,[10] Latestly,[11] Tech Bullion, WFMZ,[12] Tech Times,[13] Digital Journal,[14] and others.

Early life and education

Salimi was born on 25 May 1988 in Bursa, Turkey. A year after his birth, his family moved to Canada, where Salimi grew up. After completing his high school education in 2006, Salimi attended Ryerson University where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree. During his time there, he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

In 2012, Salimi enrolled at Osgoode Hall Law School to pursue his Juris Doctor in law. During his time at Osgoode, Salimi also completed exchange program studying at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem,[15] Israel as well as the National University of Singapore.

Salimi graduated in the top 10% of his class at Osgoode Hall Law School and was the recipient of the 2013 McMillan LLP Award, 2014 Stuart A. Roebuck Osgoode Undergraduate Memorial Scholarship, and was also the winner of the Torys Moot Cup.

Career

Salimi, soon after graduating from Osgoode Hall Law School, started his career as a corporate lawyer at Torys LLP.[16] He worked for over two years at the firm, where he focused on private and public M&A, debt finance, and securities law.[17]

In 2018, Salimi joined Polychain Capital, a digital asset firm that gained mass recognition for its global adoption of cryptocurrencies, raising over $10 M from several venture industry investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Founders Fund, Union Square Ventures Sequoia Capital, and others.[18]

Personal life

Salimi is fluent in English and Farsi. He is an active chess player and competed in Chess.com’s 2021 “Crypto Champ’s” tournament, ultimately losing to Surojit Chatterjee of Coinbase in the semi-finals.[19][20]
