Stepan Kasimirovich Gil ( 1888 - January 5 1966) was the personal chauffeur of the Soviet Union politician and Russian revolutionary Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, better known as Vladimir Lenin.

Gil was born in 1888 in Grodno, located in present-day Belarus, and died on January 5, 1966 in Moscow, Russia. He is best known for being the personal driver of Vladimir Lenin in the years following the October Revolution and the rise to power of the Bolsheviks until the death of Lenin in January 1924. Gil was a close visual witness of the 1918 assassination attempt on Lenin by Fanny Kaplan.[1]

As Lenin's personal chauffeur, Gil' drove a variety of vehicles including Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost which were popular with prominent soviet politicians. A half-track version still survives in Gorki Leninskiye, where Vladimir Lenin spent the last months of his life.

As Lenin's personal driver, Gil' also oversaw the Moscow Kremlin "Special Purpose Garage", which included a number of prized luxury cars intended for use by a restricted soviet elite.[2] He was replaced in this position by Pavel Udalov, Joseph Stalin's main driver, shortly before Lenin's death.[3]

Gil' published his memoirs in 1957.
