Rustem Umerov

Rustem Umerov (Crimean Tatar language: Rustem Enver oğlu Umerov, born April 19, 1982 in Samarkand, Uzbek Soviet Union) is a Ukraine politician, businessman, investor, and philanthropist of Crimean Tatars.[1] Member of the Parliament of Ukraine of the 9th convocation.[1] Before he was elected a member of parliament, he was the CEO of ASTEM Company, specializing in communications, IT and infrastructure investments.

Deputy Head of the Permanent Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.[2] Delegate of the Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar People and adviser to the Leader of the Crimean Tatar People Mustafa Dzhemilev.

Personal life

Rustem Umerov was born in 1982 in the Samarkand of the Uzbek SSR, in a family from Alushta (Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Ukraine). Ethnic Crimean Tatars and Muslims. His father, Enver Umerov — an engineering technologist. His mother, Meryem Umerova — a chemical engineer. Older brother — Aslan Omer Qirimli.

On Deportation of the Crimean Tatars, the Umerov family had been Deportation of the Crimean Tatars, along with all the Crimean Tatar people, from the Indigenous homeland of Crimea to Siberia and Uzbekistan.[3] In 2015, Verkhovna Rada recognized this deportation as a genocide of the Crimean Tatar people.[4] After 50 years of deportation in exile and the beginning of repatriation of Crimean Tatars in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Umerov family was able to return to their historical homeland in Crimea, which since 1991 has been part of independent Ukraine.[3]

Rustem Umerov is married and has three children.

Education

Rustem Umerov graduated from the Crimean boarding school for gifted children of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Ukraine.[5] He is a fellow of the Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX), USA.

He received a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in finance from the National Academy of Management. As a student, he was actively involved in various projects and student communities: the Canadian-Ukrainian Parliamentary Program, the American-Ukrainian Leadership Program, the European Youth Parliament, the AEGEE European Students' Forum, the Forum of the Future Summit, and the European Law Students' Association.

Career

Rustem Umerov began his career at Lifecell company, holding various Management Position Description Questionnaire from 2004 to 2010.

He managed the areas of Legal Support and logistics. At the same time, he began to engage in Investment.

In 2013, together with his brother Aslan Omer Qirimli founded the investment company ASTEM and the charity fund ASTEM Foundation. ASTEM manages investments in the fields of Communication, information technology, and infrastructure. ASTEM Foundation is one of the donors of the Ukrainian Emerging Leaders program at Stanford University.

Since 2019 - member of parliament of Ukraine from the party "Holos".[1]
