Paul Buccieri is an American business executive and President (corporate title) and Chairman of A&E Networks. He became the organization's president in 2018.[1][2][3][4]

Career

Buccieri began his career at Endemol, a Dutch-based media company.[5] He later worked as President of programming at 20th Television.[5][6]

In 2007, Buccieri became the head of ITV Studios' US Group.[7] At ITV, he managed the company's US-based productions, and oversaw its acquisition of several production companies, including Gurney Productions and High Noon Entertainment.[8] Prior to joining ITV, Buccieri was President of Programming, Production and Development at Fox Twentieth Television.[5][6]

A+E Networks

Buccieri joined A+E Networks, which is owned by Hearst Communications and Disney-ABC Television group, in 2015 as president of the company's A&E (TV network) and History (American TV network).[5][9] In 2016, oversight of Lifetime (TV network) was added to his role.[5][6] In October of that same year, Buccieri was promoted to president of both the A+E Networks Portfolio and A+E Studios, which made him responsible for all business aspects of the company's networks. including A&E, The HISTORY Channel, Lifetime, LMN (TV channel) and FYI (American TV channel).[5][10]

In 2018, Buccieri was promoted to president of A+E Networks Group, replacing former president and Chief executive officer Nancy Dubuc, who left the network for a position at Vice Media.[1][11] That same year, HISTORY's Vikings series jumped 25% compared to its ratings in 2017.[12] Likewise, under Buccieri's presidency, the Lifetime documentary series Surviving R. Kelly received more than 26 million views in 2018.[13] In December 2019, then network announced that a sequel to the series was in development and Surviving R. Kelly received a Peabody award in 2020.[13][14] Buccieri has also overseen documentaries such as "Learning to Skateboard in a War Zone (if you're a girl)," which received an Oscar for best short subject documentary at the 92nd Academy Awards.[15][16][17]

Buccieri has also overseen A&E series such as Intervention, 60 Days In, Live PD, and "Biography," The HISTORY Channel's miniseries Grant (miniseries)|Grant and Washington (miniseries)|Washington, as well as unscripted series "Alone" and scripted series "Vikings (2013 TV series)|Vikings." While under Buccieri's leadership, several A&E programs have been nominated for Emmy Awards, including Lifetime's Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia; A&E's Born This Way and Black Patriots; along with The HISTORY Channel's Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre.[18]

Buccieri has also helped spearhead diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the company, including creating an internal diversity advisory council, and increasing the network's commitment to partnering with minority-owned and female-owned production companies.[19] In February 2021, Buccieri accepted the MIP SDG Award from MIPTV and Reed MIDEM, given in recognition of A&E Networks' efforts to reduce inequities and promote diversity through its Broader Focus initiative.[20] In December 2021, Realscreen announced that Buccieri would be inducted into the Realscreen Hall of Fame, recognizing his experience and leadership in the television industry.[21]

Personal life

In October 2017, Buccieri competed in the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.[22] His participation in the event raised money for the American Cancer Society.[22]

He is married with two children.[10]
