Pancham Adhikary (Nepali: पंचम अधिकारी) is a Nepali writer and poet. He is known for his representation of contemporary Nepalese society, especially Nepalese community living abroad in his fictions, presented with the blend of three worlds: the nostalgic motherland, the real one, and the one we often dwell in, an imaginary world.

Biography

He was born on 28 September 1972 in Tanahun district of Gandaki Province. He grew up in Chitwan district, and later he moved to Kathmandu where he worked as a journalist of Deshantar, Kantipur, largest selling daily newspaper of the country, and state owned Nepal Television, including others.[1] He has been living in Belgium for two decades.[2]

Literary Career

Pathik Pravasan is Adhikary's first novel written in his native Nepali language, published in 2010.[3] It is considered a defining work of the Maoist's war period 'Nepalese young generation' that was inspired by rebellion, frustration and 'Go Abroad' experiences. The main character of the novel, Pathik, travels to Europe to study, and finds a new world totally different from the landlocked Himalayan nation in which he grew up.[4]

Pathik Pravasan is a fiction work which centers on the struggle faced by Nepalese when they reach abroad. In addition, the writer portrays the status of Nepal and sufferings of Nepalese youth under Maoist insurgency and regarding going abroad, annually in large number, impressively.[5][6]

Apart from being a fiction writer, Adhikary also writes poetry and essays on literature.He has been writing many articles in popular Nepalese media regularly, promoting as well as advocating Nepalese literature abroad.[7][8]
