Naji Al Ashwal
Naji Hussein Naji Alashwal is a Yemeni Wushu martial artist who joined Kung-Fu (Wushu) in 1997 and has achieved many local and international medals in this sport since. His most prominent achievement is winning the Bronze Medal in the 15th Asian Games in Doha, 2006 which was the only medal for the Yemeni Olympic delegation which included 24 athletes competing in 6 different games. This Olympic achievement is the 2nd in the history of the Yemeni contributions since 1982, thus Naji became the 2nd medalist who won a medal in the Asian Games.
He was born on 23 December 1982 in Muharraq, Bahrain.
International Contributions and Achievements
2001: Achieved the silver medal and the 2nd place in the 1st Kung-Fu Afro-Asian Championships held in Cairo, Egypt. [1]2002: Contributed in the 14th Asian Games, Busan, South Korea. Education
Naji received a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Education Science from Faculty of Sports Education, Sana'a University, 2006.
Skills and Hobbies
In addition to Wushu (Kung-Fu), Naji also practises many other sports and games such as: Cycling; Boxing; Swimming; Running; Football and Volleyball. He has got local placing in these sports.
Awards and Recognitions
As the first athletes from Yemen who achieved a World title for the first time for the country, Naji and his younger brother Mohammed Alashwal were awarded from the President of the country, Ali Abdullah Saleh in 2005 upon achieving two World Medals in the 2nd Sanshou World Cup held in Guangzhou, China, Nov. 2004.
Others
Naji Alashwal having a world title, an Olympic and many Arab gold medals is considered as one of the best athletes in Yemen. Now he is the main coach of the Yemeni Wushu (Kung-fu) junior team. He works hard in building new champions for Yemen.
