Early life
Burman was born on September 6, 1978, in Khudrafaladi, Barpeta district, Assam, India. He was raised in his maternal grandmother's house in Assam. As a child, he displayed a natural affinity for music, often playing the bamboo flute, a traditional Assamese instrument and the harmonium. His family affectionately called him "MDB," a name that has persisted throughout his career.
Burman's formal journey into music began when he moved to Mumbai, where he studied under the guidance of his guru, the late S.R. Rajan Sharma. His passion for music deepened after discovering the works of Sir James Roy Horner, whose compositions for films like Titanic greatly influenced him. However, he struggled to establish himself in Mumbai’s competitive film industry.
Career
Burman made his breakthrough in the Bollywood music industry as a background music composer for the film Tension Mat le Yaar in 2012, with composer Bipulendra Haloi. In 2013, he gained recognition as part of the composer duo “Bipulendra Mrinaal,” for the film Zindagi Jalebi.
