Mihir Chandan (born June 20, 1996) is an Indian entrepreneur, music producer,[1] and multi-instrumentalist[2] best known as one of the premier handpan players in India. He has released many folktronic singles under his own label, "Panoramic Sessions," and performs hundreds of gigs throughout the year. Some of his compositions include ‘Desert Cry’, ‘Our Own Universe', ‘Placid Gange’ ‘Rathiya’, ‘Laga Re’ and ‘Disconnected.’[3]

Early life and education

Chandan was born to Umesh Chandan, his father, and Preeti Chandan, his mother, in Dhanbad, Bihar (now Jharkhand), and has been brought up in Mumbai. He has been a drummer since college and has performed with various bands during his teen years.

MIhir has achieved distinction honors in MSc Marketing from the prestigious University of Manchester (Manchester Business School.)

Prior to that Chandan pursued his education, SSC at Don Bosco, Mumbai and went on to complete his higher secondary at B K Birla Center of Education, Pune. Thereafter, Mihir completed his under-graduation in science from Ruia College, Mumbai, followed by a bachelor's degree in Management Studies from the University of Mumbai.

Career

After completing his studies at Manchester Business School, Chandan worked at Magna Publication in their London office for a couple of years before making a switch back to Mumbai. Thereafter, he did multiple jobs with brands like the Harley Davidson Mumbai, Times Group and Professional Beauty, followed by starting his own business in the automotive industry.[4]

Chandan’s startup, ‘SS Moto Corp', deals in premium motorcycle parts and accessories and currently makes PAM products for RE, Harley Davidson, Kawasaki, BMW and KTM. At the same time, Mihir has been pursuing his passion for music through his record label, ‘Panoramic Sessions', and has released many folktronic singles since then. His work represents the rich musical legacy of India and he has flourished as a handpan and rav player, a music composer, live looper, and a producer for over a decade now.

Chandan has been featured on Rolling Stones, Spotify, Outlook India, Telegraph, Mid-day, APN news, Indian Saga, The Hindu, British Council and the New Indian Express. Some of his compositions include ‘Desert Cry’, ‘Our Own Universe’, ‘Disconnected’, ‘Placid Ganges’, ‘Pankh Adhure’, ‘Pre Dawn’, and ‘Binary Sunset’, to name a few.

Awards

Chandan is India’s first handpan electronic musician to create both house and techno percussion. He is also the world's first handpan artist to curate and perform on yacht sessions. Mihir has also been featured on Spotify ‘Fresh Finds’ and 'Mint India’.[5] In 2021, he participated in the Euro 2021 handpan player competition and came second in it.

Personal life

Chandan has a brother named Harsh Chandan. Who runs a very successful Beauty business under the Name ‘Chandan & Shah Trading’ (CST) Brand. Harsh Chandan is married to Deepali Shah who runs the very upbeat and dynamic events company “Crimson Circle”.
