Lex Croucher (born 8 March 1992) is a British author and content creator from Kingston upon Thames, England. Croucher has been making Youtube videos since 2010 and became a published author in June 2019.

Career

YouTube

Croucher has been on Youtube since 2 June 2008, with the creation of the channel Lex Croucher (formly tyrannosauruslexxx), featuring personal content, opinion pieces and collaborations (including Hannah Witton, Rosianna Halse Rojas and Louise Pentland). Recently, Croucher has discussed writing and gender identity. Croucher's main channel has over 4 million views and over 122,000 subscribers.[1]

They also have a second channel, lexcanroar, created on 14 September 2008, mainly featuring vlogs, which has over 135,000 views and over 8,000 subscribers.[2]

They were also a member of the collaboration channel Sarcaschicks, from 2011 to 2014.[3]

At Summer in the City (event) 2015 Croucher founded and chaired the Women on Youtube panel, discussing the experiences of female contact creators in an online space, the panel included Cherry Wallis, Theadora Lee, Dodie Clark, Laci Green, Lucy Moon and Jana Damanhouri.[4]

As part of their Youtube career, Croucher traveled to Syria with the charity Save the Children.[5]

Podcasts

Croucher hosted a advice podcast with fellow Youtuber Rosianna Halse Rojas titled Make Out With Him, about dating and relationships.[6] Described as "A crushes, dating, relationships, and kissing podcast hosted by love amateurs Lex Croucher and Rosianna Halse Rojas."[7]

Published Writing

Croucher’s first book, a non-fiction self-help guide called You’re Crushing It: Positivity for Living Your Real Life, was published by Bloomsbury UK in 2019.[8]

It was announced in September 2020 that Zaffre would publish Croucher's debut novel, Reputation, a historical romantic comedy.[9] Reputation was published in the UK July 2021.

Shortly after the publication of Reputation, it was announced that Bloomsbury UK will be publishing Croucher’s debut YA novel Gwen and Art Are Not In Love, a queer medieval romance. The expected publication date is 2023.[10]

In February 2022 it was announced that Zaffre acquired Croucher's second Regency novel, Infamous, due to be published 21 July 2022 in the UK. St. Martin's Press is expected to publish Infamous in the US in 2023.[11]

Chloe Seager, from Madeleine Milburn, is Croucher's current literacy agent.[12]

Activism

In 2015, Croucher started an online petition calling for a drastic improvement of the living conditions of the pengiuns at Sea Life London Aquarium. This petition was included in a The Independent article entitled 5 worthwhile campaigns to support on Change[13] The petition on Change.org gained 107,151 supports.

In April 2020 Croucher presented a video for Greenpeace's YouTube page and website entitled Do hashtags and petitions actually work?[14] Croucher discusses the effectiveness of online activism (via petitions, social media and hashtags) and the term slacktivist.

In 2020, Croucher added their name to an open letter from The Second Shelf, a feminist bookstore, showing their support for the transgender and non-binary community, along with over 200 other authors.[15]

Personal Life

Croucher lives in London, with their boyfriend and Fliss the cat.[16] In 2021, Croucher announced they quit their day job to become a full-time author.

In 2020 Croucher announced, via Twitter, that they are non-binary.[17]

Later, in March 2021, Croucher further discussed their gender identity in a Youtube video entitled I don't know what my gender is and at this point I'm too afraid to ask.
