Laura Ghiacy is a British-born, Los Angeles-based personal trainer, fitness influencer, and content creator known for her refreshing approach to fitness and her advocacy against diet culture. With a large following on TikTok, Ghiacy has significantly influenced the fitness industry, inspiring her 435K followers to shift their focus from weight loss to physical activity enjoyment.[1][2]

Ghiacy's approach to personal training has garnered attention and admiration from individuals looking to break free from the restrictive mindset of diet culture.[3] Through engaging content, personalized training sessions, and empowering programs, she motivates others to embrace movement, strength, and self-acceptance.[4]

Early life and education

Ghiacy was born and raised in Surrey, United Kingdom, and relocated to Los Angeles, California, in 2018.

Before embarking on her career as a personal trainer, Ghiacy spent a decade working in the television industry. However, she realized that the industry was not fulfilling for her and was taking a toll on her well-being. Seeking a more meaningful path that would nourish her mind and body, she turned to fitness.

Career

Her journey as a personal trainer began in 2016 when she decided to pursue the necessary qualifications. By 2017, she had become a certified Personal Trainer and a group exercise instructor at Nuffield Health in London. She also received certification as a Les Mills Body Pump Instructor. Since relocating to Los Angeles in 2018, Ghiacy has established herself as a Personal Trainer specializing in movement, strength, and mobility.[5][6]

With a passion for empowering individuals of all shapes and sizes, Ghiacy offers one-on-one personal training sessions at her facility and client locations. Additionally, she has developed a program called "Strong Foundations," which serves as a toolkit to introduce individuals, regardless of their shape or size, to the principles of movement.[7] Ghiacy has incorporated mobility training into the strength training regimen of the Strong Foundations program. By purchasing this program, participants gain access to foundational moves and principles that will support their fitness journey with Ghiacy for four weeks and extend well beyond that time frame.[8][9]

In addition to her training programs, Ghiacy also shares her knowledge and insights through her "Debunking Diet-Culture Newsletter." This newsletter provides subscribers with honest and occasionally humorous emails that challenge the harmful aspects of diet culture.[10] By signing up for the newsletter, individuals can receive valuable information about debunking diet culture and updates on Ghiacy’s upcoming products and courses.[11][12]

Ghiacy has cultivated a substantial following on TikTok, where she shares her unique perspective that has made waves in the fitness industry. With an impressive 435K followers under her username @lauraghiacy, she motivates her fans to shift their focus away from weight loss and instead find joy in the pursuit of fitness.[13]

Through her TikTok videos,[14] Ghiacy skillfully deconstructs the myths perpetuated by diet culture. One of her notable approaches involves comparing healthy food options to junk and unhealthy food,[15] revealing the stark differences in their calorie contents. Some of her most famous comparison videos feature protein cookies against Krispy Kreme donuts and protein cookies against McDonald's cheeseburgers, effectively exposing the higher calorie, fat, and sugar levels in the seemingly healthier protein cookies.[16]

By sharing these enlightening comparisons, Ghiacy challenges the prevailing narratives surrounding food choices and helps her audience make more informed decisions.[17] Her TikTok content promotes a healthier relationship with food and debunks the misconceptions fostered by diet culture.[18]
