Creel also sits on the board of trustees for Second Stage Theater, a multi-award-winning Broadway and Off-Broadway production company devoted to amplifying the works of contemporary American playwrights. The company's productions have won more than dozen Tony Awards, 29 Obie Awards, eight Outer Critics Circle Awards, and 13 Drama Desk Awards, among other accolades.

Since its inception in 1979, Second Stage has produced over 200 original and uniquely American stories told through genres such as musicals, plays, and solo performances. Notably, the company has staged productions of the Pulitzer Prize-winning plays Water by the Spoonful (Quiara Alegria Hudes), Between Riverside and Crazy (Stephen Adly Guirgis), Next to Normal (Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey), and Dear Evan Hansen (Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul).
