After completing his secondary education at Don Bosco School, Mukherjee studied engineering and computer science at the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).[5] He enrolled at IIT Kharagpur and graduated with Bachelor of Technology degree in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering. He then earned his Master of Technology degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kanpur.[6] He published theses and papers on topics related to AI and robotics. Career

In January of 1988, Krishna C. Mukherjee was selected and recruited by Microsoft to build mission-critical products. At that time, he was completing his Master’s degree at IIT Kanpur. Soon after completing his Master’s degree, Mukherjee relocated to the USA and went on to serve as Chief Software Architect and Engineer for Microsoft at the company’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington. He architected, designed, and led the development of flagship products such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows, and Visual Studio. He led the research and development of Microsoft Office for Microsoft’s and Apple’s operating systems.[7]

Mukherjee designed and developed the proofing tools for Microsoft Office. He supervised the introduction and development of intelligent features that include AutoCorrect, AutoFormat, and IntelliSense. Mukherjee is also known for developing AI-based technology for automating enterprise workflows and for dynamically creating graphical user interfaces from specifications made in declarative markup languages.[8] Under his leadership, Microsoft developed the Windows Presentation Foundation and Extensible Application Markup Language technologies. He used AI-based technologies to build a range of desktop, client-server, web-based, and Software as a Service (SaaS) applications.[9]

With the desire to deeply explore the applications of AI, Mukherjee started working with Wolters Kluwer in 1996. He researched and invented the AI technology that is popularly known as the Intelligent Filing Manager (INTELLIFM). The INTELLIFM technology helps enterprises in transforming paper-based workflows into user-friendly electronic systems. By using INTELLIFM, enterprises can increase their overall efficiency and revenues, and reduce their operating costs. Mukherjee utilized INTELLIFM to develop and commercialize the SaaS model for performing powerful business transactions such as executing multi-jurisdictional filings across the fifty states of the USA and Washington DC. He directed the creation of award-winning SaaS applications, including CTAdvantage.com, hCue.com, LienSolutions.com, and MediRegs.com, while working for Wolters Kluwer as the Chief Information Officer. Wolters Kluwer deployed these SaaS applications on Microsoft’s cloud servers.[10] Thus, Mukherjee helped Microsoft to get established in the enterprise software market. Additionally, he enabled Wolters Kluwer to transition from paper-based to automated electronic processes and emerge as a global provider of information services.[11][12]

During the years from 2005 to 2014, Mukherjee served in directorial capacities at leading finance and e-commerce companies.[13] He directed the development of advanced trading and reference data management systems for Citadel and UBS AG.[14] At Bloomberg LP, he architected, designed, and led the development of the subscription-based software product Bloomberg Valuation Service (BVAL) that was launched in 2008.[15] BVAL utilizes quantitative algorithms and predictive models to assist in authenticating investment decisions. It harnesses scalable architecture to price millions of financial instruments daily across multiple asset classes. Mukherjee architected, designed, and led the development of the AutoPay platform. AutoPay allows customers to pay their bills by scheduling direct payments using their chosen payment methods such as credit cards, debit cards, and electronic cheques. By offering AutoPay, companies do not have to mail considerable number of paper invoices, and they are able to substantially reduce the manual handling of cash and checks. Companies do not have to spend time following up with the late-paying customers.[16] Thus, AutoPay allows businesses to eliminate overhead, save costs, and provide high satisfaction to their customers.[17]

Since 2014, Mukherjee has been associated as Senior Technology Executive at KWI. Here, he has been responsible for designing and developing state-of-the-art technologies for omni-channel retailing. Moreover, he has been providing technology leadership to Microsoft partner companies. He has been directing the development of automated Interactive Voice Response and Virtual Assistant systems. These enterprise systems utilize Microsoft and AI technologies such as Microsoft Azure, natural language processing, natural language understanding, and deep learning. Only, when necessary, these conversational robots transfer customers to human advisors. As a result, FIS can respond to customer queries across all channels in the shortest amount of time.[18]

Mukherjee has used predictive analytics and AI to enable companies provide excellent customer service, increase sales and revenues, minimize operating costs, improve security, and prevent fraudulent transactions. He has made the finance and payments industries objective, dependable, and efficient.[19]
