Kimin Tanoto is an Indonesian serial entrepreneur and investor, who currently runs Gunung Raja Paksi, the largest steel manufacturing company in Indonesia.[1] He also serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Indonesian Iron and Steel Association. Tanto has become a leader when it comes to adapting Green and Sustainable business practices and has not only transformed his company by implementing those but also inspired several other Indonesian companies to take a step in that direction.[2]

Kimin is the Founder and CEO of Gunung Capital (GC). Based in Singapore, GC is a privately held asset management company with investments in infrastructure, building materials, energy, supply chain logistics, trading, land development and consumer-related businesses.

Kimin is a serial entrepreneur and business leader who has founded multiple businesses. Kimin has leveraged his global and regional business connections, visionary business acumen and deep operational expertise to establish partnerships with world-class companies in the steel and cement industry, top-tier financial institutions and capital markets, to seize on opportunities in Asia and the world.

Kimin is committed to putting his business acumen and entrepreneurship skills to invest in transformative projects that contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This includes investing in projects that support the decarbonization of different industries, sustainability-linked projects, and carbon credit markets.

Kimin has extensive experience in the asset management, cement, and steel industries that has led him to become a pioneering businessman and establish partnerships with several prolific clients & companies.

Education

Kimin completed his Bachelor of Industrial Management from Cornell University.

Career

Kimin serves as the commissioner at Gunung Raja Paksi, which he joined in 2019. During this time he led the company through a transformation by bringing in a world-class management and operations team through a strategic partnership with Baowu Steel Group, China's largest steel company.[3] He also played an integral part in the company’s partnership with MCC CISDI Group that helped in adapting advanced engineering and production technologies within Gunung Raja Paksi.[4]

Kimin serves as on the Board of Commissioners for PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk which successfully listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange in 2019. Under Kimin’s leadership, he has initiated a transformation of the company by bringing in a world-class management and operations team. In recognition of his contributions to the local steel industry, Kimin was appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Iron and Steel Association.

Apart from that, Tanoto also serves as the VC of the Indonesian Iron and Steel Association. He has also gained recognition for leveraging his commercial acumen and entrepreneurship talents to fund innovative projects that help the United Nations achieve its Sustainable Development Goals.[5] Furthermore, Tanaoto has also invested in projects that help the decarbonization of various industries.[6]

Personal life

Kimin is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese, Hokkien and Bahasa Indonesia.
