Education

Mr. O'Flanagan has several engineering degrees, and multiple areas of academic study.

He attended John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio from September 1998 to May 2000, majoring in physics.[1]

After a change in major, and University, O'Flanagan graduated from The Case School of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2002.[1]

He then spent several years focusing on industry, primarily in the tire industry, and returned to school at the University of Akron in August 2007 to pursue a Master's Degree while simultaneously maintaining a full work and research schedule.[1]

O'Flanagan received his Master's of Science Degree in Engineering Management, with a mechanical specialization in Finite Element Analysis.[1]

He later returned to The University of Akron in March 2023 for his induction into The Order of The Engineer.[2]

Industry

O'Flanagan's diverse engineering skillset was acquired through experience at many different industrial, biotech, automotive, naval nuclear, and national defense.[3]

This experience was gained at companies like The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Babcock & Wilcox, BWX Technologies, Johnson Matthey, Hankook Tire & Technology, and Oapsie Inc., where Mr. O'Flanagan spends the majority of his time.[3]

From 2012 to 2016, O'Flanagan held a United States Department of Energy Level L Security Clearance, with access equivalent to the United States Department of DefenseSecret Level Clearance.[3]

Research

James O'Flanagan's areas of research include Baseball Bio-Physics, Artificial Intelligence, Mechanical Engineering, Technical Computation, High Performance Computing, and Software Engineering.[1]

Pennantview is an area of active research in 2024. Pennantview is proprietary technology from Oapsie Inc. that applies the Finite Element Method to the baseball pitching motion.[4]

Pennantview received patent pending status with a Provisional Patent filing in the United States in December 2022.[5]

Pennantview was accepted based on technical merits as a poster presentation at SABR 51, the primary trade conference for The Society for American Baseball Research.[6]

Pennantview, and its derivative technology, Pitcherview, was accepted on technical merits to the ASME IMECE 2023 trade conference.[7]

Generative Artificial Intelligence is another area of study; it is applied to automate tasks in Software Engineering and Mechanical Engineering by Oapsie Inc., in order to facilitate new technology development. This has primarily manifested in the Artificial Intelligence Entity (AIE) Edi Oapsie, which is an area of active publishing and continuing research.[8]

Honors & Awards

James O'Flanagan is a member of several professional and engineering organizations such as The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, The Order of The Engineer, The Golden Key International Honor Society, and The Sigma Pi Sigma Physics National Honor Society.[3]
