James Instruments is an award-winning manufacturer of construction-related hand-held electronics.[1] James Kennedy founded the company in 1985, and it is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.[2] James Instruments specializes in the design and manufacture of innovative concrete and other construction materials testing equipment.
Since its inception, James Instruments has become one of the leading suppliers of non-destructive testing equipment serving clients in over 45 counties. The company’s service portfolio includes industry giants such as New York DOT, University of Texas, University of North Dakota, and Hong Kong Housing Authority.[3]
History
James Instruments began as a branch of James Electronics in the mid-1970s, producing the famous R-Meter for locating steel reinforcing bar. In 1985 the company spun off into a separate entity James Instruments. In 1989 James Instruments acquired Windsor Systems Inc and began manufacturing the Windsor Probe. In 2003 the company developed a hand held microwave moisture meter, which has now become the Aggrameter. It went on to become the world's leading manufacturer of non-destructive testing equipment for building materials.[4]
The company offers a wide array of equipment for measuring compressive and tensile strength, locating rebar and other items in concrete and masonry, determining the density and analyzing materials ultrasonically, analyzing corrosion, and determining moisture in concrete and other building materials.[5]
James Instruments is the creator and sponsor of the James Instruments Student Scholarship and a member of the American Concrete Institute, ASTM International, and Concrete Sawing and Drilling Association.[6]
